Hi:
I purchased the brown wrinkle finish Hoover vacuum cleaner filter device shown in photos on eBay a couple months ago. I know what it is for and it is in perfect condition.
My Dad was a Hoover salesman in 40's and 50's and I often accompanied him on sales calls. My Dad would remove the cloth bag and its round mounting ring from a Hoover. Then he would replace it with the filter device. Running the vacuum for just a short few passes would quickly fill the paper filter paper with dirt and carpet debris.
Quite impressive to see. A prospect that currently used a tank or cannister vacuum was quite surprised to see how much dirt was embedded in their carpeting. The tank or cannister rug nozzles did not pick up much more than visible surface debris.
He also had an extra cloth bag and ring to put on the Hoover to further demonstrate the "Beats As It Sweeps As It Cleans" capability. After a few more passes, I or Dad removed the cloth bag top clip to show the amount of dirt in the bag. That dirty bag was taken back to the shop for cleaning on our Hoover bag cleaner for use at the next demo. That way we did not soil the brand new bag on the demo Hoover vacuum.
I seem to recall that Dad had another filter device to fit the more recent oval shaped bag ring models.
But, I cannot recall the exact Hoover name for the filter device. And I have had no success searching the internet.
Anyone have further information? How about references in Hoover literature or repair parts manuals. I do recall Dad ordering additional filter papers for the device. I made my own filters from some sort of coffee filter paper I found at a Goodwill store.
Thanks,
