Hi All! Been a long, LONG time since I've been up here. My user name is the same as it was years ago...but my old profile somehow disappeared so I've rejoined today. Been spending all my time over on Automaticwasher.org (same username there, too)...but miss the vac discussions and topics. Must admit, what really spurred me back into action is wanting to keep in the loop about Hoover Celebrity QS machines as I have a model S3237 and am on the hunt for a few bits for it. Shameless, but true...

Gary!

I forgot that you were up here, too! Well I dismantled the thing today and found the problem. That spooled up tension/winding spring is broken off at the nylon pin (which also has a split in the end where the retaining screw goes...I'm presuming these assemblies are probably identical across the Hoover Celebrity range...??

You could just drill another hole in the end of the clock spring and reattach it to the pin, the crack doesn't seem that big of a deal.

Drilling...

was my other option I'd been considering (because I'm CHEAP!)....and probably what I will wind up doing. But if the assembly or any part becomes available, I'll happily just replace it. This poor machine has just been sitting here for a decade...so more delayed time is not going to kill me at this point.

Better to replace it altogether and do it right the first time, and sell the broken part as salvage and help someone else out possibly. No sense trying to bodge it back together, have it work for 1-2 months then have to take the entire vacuum apart to repair it again. When I fix my vacuums, I make sure to fix everything in one go when it's opened up for the surgery, and then it will never have to be repaired again other than a belt change for the next dozen years or more.

FOUND!!

In a room in my house (where I never go because of all the appliance bits in the way!)....what do ya s'pose I found? In among various old Electrolux extension wands was the upper chrome curved wand for my Celebrity QS. If you stash enough stuff away for long enough, you will eventually have exactly the item you need....After all these years I can finally use the Celebrity around here while standing up and not down on my knees. Happy day.
