Hoover Powerplus

Although interesting to have one of these cleaners, the "bagless" cleaner is really just a development of the old shake out bag, and scarcely more hygienic.

But this cleaner and its conventionally bagged (and cheaper!) equivalent are remarkable rare - I would say over the years I have seen more Co-Op or Electricity Board exclusive Ranger style cleaners on ebay than I have these very late Seniors or Powerplus as they were then known.

Some day I will haul out all my seniors, from the 160 upwards, to see how they compare with each other, over the 50 odd years they were in production, were the later versions actually any better than the earlier ones?

BTW It was a Tristar used to clean out the fluff and dirt left behind after shaking out the bag.

Very interesting comment Vacbear and it makes sense, at least to me. By the time the U4186 Senior and Powerplus went into production, this type of cleaner was rather dated - more so perhaps when the Turbopower Junior made its debute, seeing how it was bigger and mightier than the Junior yet smaller than the Senior and more modern than both. In otherwords, too much choice yet again from Hoover, and far more up to date one at that.

Furthermore, it's worth us remembering that the likes of the Electricity Board showrooms always attracted the more mature customer, shall we say, the likes of whom would have been the type to also purchase the softbag uprights.
