Hoover Portapower Commercial found...and returned to service!

My grandfather asked me to find a vacuum suitable for cleaning his airplane, so I went to a thrift store and came back with this: a 1998 Hoover S7065-060 Commercial Portapower.

Not only is it perfect for the task, but it’s very unused. I think just about everything except the crevice tool is present and accounted for. The motor has that classic two stage hum.

Just thought I would share these pics before it goes to its new home. Enjoy!

It looks like it's brand new. The vacuum will easily clean an airplane. It's porta able perfect for trans port tation on airplane.

Thanks Les! Yes, he’s very pleased with it, especially for just $8. You can’t get much better quality per dollar than this. Those pics were taken after I had spiffed it up just a bit, although it wasn’t much different when I found it. Just a bit dusty.

Presumably, this can take paper bags, yes? Which ones? Do they go inside the cloth shake out bag?

Bags

There is an adapter for like $8 to have vacuum take type n disposable bags. It is a shakeout bag. If it's a cloth bag then bags for compact/ TriStar bags.
It depends on what you want to spend. If you have bags you could easily put a bag in and use a belt or rubber band hold it in place. I found 30 bags at thrift store for a Windsor upright. It was $1.50 for them. My dirt devil can vac they fit it perfectly.
The vacuum has a cloth bag you can shakeout. They take Hoover type N bags.

Paper bags

Do they go inside the cloth bag? No, with both the cloth bag and plastic adaptor in the bag door will not close.
I have a domestic model at work for those little jobs but I hate dealing with cloth bags, so I swapped it over to paper.

The fibers that become air borne with fabric bags and bagless vacuums are nasty and a health issue.


 


Paper is easy and quick and safe to change

Thanks for the info. I’ll try to get him an adapter. Rather than use the Hoover paper bags, I’ll probably cut the top off a Sebo fleece bag and fit that instead.

There was a newer PortaPower Commercial at a nearby Goodwill for the longest time, but I didn’t grab it because it was filthy and missing all of the attachments and hose.

They were probably using a messy cloth bag that leak a lot of dust.  I don't blame you for not picking it up.


 


The first Electrolux I picked up had a cloth bag and it was covered in dust. The static electricity just makes the dirt adhere.

Adapter

I have the adapter. I thought it was the adapter for uprights to use a hose.
If you pay shipping I'll send entire kit.

Today I was greeted with an email from Opa containing the following photo. Turns out he broke out the Portapower to clean the floor of his plane while it’s apart for its annual.

Is your dads plane

a Cessna or Piper or? We had a twin engine Beech back when I was a pup. Dad retained his flight instructor license and had me up in the air at 10. I always enjoyed calling the tower for clearance and then racing down runway 2-8 left at full throttle. You wanted to climb as fast as you could so as to clear this bank of tall eucalyptus trees at the end of the runway!

Keep the cloth bag...just in case.

Keep the cloth bag for someday you might have issues getting the paper ones and the cloth is a good backup, you can always shake it out holding the gasket down on a piece of paper or cardboard, then wait for a few second a for the dust to settle, gently pick it up and fold up the paper and the dust, then you can vacuum the bag out with another vacuum or throw it in the clothes washer.

I got one of these bags somewhere and it appears it came from a cleaning service who must have used a lot of these machines. They would periodically throw the bags in the washer and dryer to clean them. I forget how I obtained the bag, but it’s evident it had been recently washed this way.
