Hoover Model 28???

TAAA_DAAAAAA! It is a Handisac conversion for a model 28. Thanks to Gary Ball and his generousity, I am the proud owner of a beautiful "late" model 28 "with Handisac". I saw one of these in St. Louis at the 2006 convention and have never seen one since. I bet this was an expensive option on the 28 so most folks just decided to go with the more deluxe model 61 which came with the Handisac as standard equipment. Gary also sent me a beautiful "dump" bag for my pre-WWII model 60 Hoover upright. Thank you Gary!

Wow...what a neat feature.....

I have seen 28's before with aftrermarket DVC Conversions in a similar shade of brown fabric except the fabric's weave was more sheer/smooth or sheen like, and used a C bag as the paper inner as usual. I was told many years ago that you could use an F&G bag as well.

But to find the "Real McCoy from Hoover" definitly is a neat treat. No more shaking out filthy cloth filtrebags for you!!! LOL

wow

I will have to find one of these, to try on all my 28's

how come the back wheels look differnt than all the 28' I have seen. the color is darker and the casting looks to have a differnt mold abobe the wheels.

Nice 28, Tom!!

And I've never seen one before with this unusual option. How nice of Gary to send it to you. Congratulations,
Jeff

Another great find,

and it looks to be in great shape, too. We didn't get disposable bags of any kind over here until 1955, as an option on the 638 - as I'm sure you know, Hoover offered them in the States as early as 1929!

hoover 28

Tom,
I have seen 28's with other bag conversons but they cut down on the airflow. The tools had almost no suction.Because this is "original Hoover" equipment how is the suction and airflow?I have never seen one and didn't even know they were available. Looks like the machine is in good shape. I too noticed the color difference on parts of the bottom of the cleaner.

Rob, there were bojack C-bag conversions available, is that what you're talking about? I have one of those but never checked out the airflow. Hmmm, now I'm curious...

The Handisacs have great airflow, I suppose due to the surface area of the bag and the cellulose material.

Hoover 28 with Handisac

Hi, Tom ~

I think the 28 with the Handisac conversion you saw at the convention a few years ago might have been mine. I found it in a thrift store here in my neighborhood, but didn't realize what an unusual "find" it was until I was just giving it away. Now I wish I had saved it! Oh, well ....

Hoover 28

John,
That is what I am talking about. The one I saw and used had a bogas conversion that was done in the mid 50's. I didn't realize the suction and airflow difference until you put in the converter-then almost no airflow and as we all know the dusting tools did not have strong suction anyway.
Where does that old Tom find all this great stuff! I just love it when I see he has entered a new post. You know it will be something you have not seen before. Thanks again Tom.

Handisac

Based on that bag being genuine Hoover, and having seen TWO of these growing up (two of Mom's friends had them with this set up) I believe they were available at the time of purchase. I remember these back to the EARLY 60's and, knowing the women, have no reason to believe they were conversions.
