I just bought my first prewar vacuum--a Hoover Model 26, in a thrift shop in Kelso, WA for $15! It appears to have a later bag (with a Hoover paper bag) on it, from I'd guess around 1980-90. The cord appears to be one from a Dial-a-Matic. I'm curious what an original bag would look like, and what other outer bags would work as a replacement. I'm also curious if anyone has any reproduction bags available for it (would they be the shake-out kind?)

I'd love to know everything all of you know about the Hoover 26.

Thanks!
Nick

This is what the original Hoover model 26 bag looks like. I can make a reproduction bag for it.
I make a ton of bags for my own and some friends cleaners.

Feel free to email me if interested.

I'd definitely be interested

I'd definitely be interested in a new bag. Shoot me an email with the price, to texbodemer (at) Gmail (dot) com.

The Home Depot did a fantastic job of paint matching.

The motor and fan are in beautiful shape!

Wow, it's incredible you got that close to the original color with modern paints. Last time I tried to do paint matching on an appliance back in 2005 or so, it was way off.

Also it looks like you have an Electrolux cord on your vacuum as well.

The cord

The cord is identical to the ones I've seen on Dial-a-Matics, but Electrolux would also work. I gave the base a fresh coat (nothing worse than a shiny spot)

Would a Kirby or Hoover commercial outer bag work as a stopgap?
