Hoover Model 25

I found this Hoover buried in a garage at an estate sale. I paid $8 for it and it seems to be in pretty good original condition. The bag was full of some kind of hair and there is a small hole in the bag. The motor stared, but seemed pretty noisy. Here's a picture of it after I wiped it down to get 70 years of dust off of it. These were made in the 1930's? Any information on how to service the motor would be great.

The model 25 was made from 1937-1938 -- not a very long production run.  I think it was sort of a "middle of the line" machine -- with the model 150 being the "top of the line," and the model 300 being the "entry level" machine.  Love the design, very classy machine.  The handle grip is in wonderful condition; it's rare to see those survive at all.  


 


Robert has scanned a very informative Hoover service manual and it's available for download at the link below, if you're interested.  The service manual covers machines from the 1920's through the early Convertibles and offers good step-by-step instructions on servicing the cleaners.  There's also a scan of a model 25 owner's manual available as well.

Thanks for the info Fred! I downloaded the owners manual and will probably do the same with the service manual.

While cleaning up the model 25, I found that there was one broken fan blade. How dramatically will that effect the vacuum's performance? I might have a fan from a much later Hoover - will it fit on an old timer like this one?

I would have liked to check out the photos, but none of the links in the first post worked for me. When I clicked the link in the third post all I got was a screen asking me to sign in to yahoo. I don't have a yahoo account, or a google account, or a face book account, so no dice. But the biggest problem with these silly Flickr photos is at some point in the future, usually the near future; the photos are taken down leaving behind nothing but a bunch of useless links. Why not just post a picture or two in the thread the way everyone else does? That way it's saved here for posterity.
