Hoover Jazz TJA1410

Hi everyone,

Some of you might know that for a long time I was looking to buy a Modern Vacuum Cleaner (preferable by Hoover) well 6 weeks ago I bought a Hoover Jazz Cylinder from Makro. It was £50 down from £89.99, so plus V.A.T this makes it £60 total. I have used it a few times a week & it has been used to suck up general dirt plus bits of stuff that I have put down on the floor to test the Suction power.

Overall, I have been impressed with it. The amount it's managed to suck up out the Carpet is good, despite coming with no Turbo Nozzle. On Hard Floor it does a good job too & I have noticed recently the Multi-Cyclone Unit can be split into 4 parts (5 if you have a screwdriver). The filter at the top of the Cyclones on the one side has dirt stuck on it but the filter is not letting it pass through the other side. I haven't washed it yet, just Vacuumed it when it's dirty & it has been fine. I will wash it at some point though.

The unit uses a 1400w motor which is quite eco-friendly compared to some Hoover products & the motor is quite noisy, about as noisy as a 1998-2003 Numatic Henry but the Suction Power makes up for this.

So yes I am happy with the machine & I feel it's worth the £50 I paid (I got the V.A.T back for some reason). It is a good Vacuum & I really like the Easy Empty feature, so simple.

Just to add for madabouthoovers I have not had a problem with the Cyclones Clogging with this. It's exactly the same model as your Turbo Power Cylinder which you experienced clogging problems with but I haven't, not yet anyway.

Was your Cyclonic Unit able to split into 4/5 pieces?

Ah, Mr Beckham, perhaps they modified the bases of the cones on later models, or I just had a bad one where the tips of the cones hadn't been smoothed off properly causing dust to catch on them, blocking the cones up in due course.
I don't use it anyway, and when I need to start clearing out models to sell in due course it will be one that probably has to go. I am not a big fan of cylinder vacs anyway, as I have carpets throughout my house.
I am pleased that you don't have any problems with yours, but I would keep your eye on it though if you are going to be cleaning your parents house with it on a regular basis.

Hi Steve perhaps they have modified the Cyclonic Unit, but it is still a good vacuum all in all & is easy to empty which is a feature I like. I have taken the cyclone unit apart & it appears to be washable which is nice however I think steaming is probably a better option.

What machines are you going to sell as I might be interested.

Not selling any at the moment, as I hate selling my beloved vacs, but its getting harder to find space to house my latest acquisitions in my tiny terraced house, and I don't want to end up sleeping with them in my bedroom or taking over the lounge. If any have to go, its more than likely it will be some of the bagless ones as no-one wants bagged models now, and I prefer my bagged vacs anyway.

Just a thought - do you have pets in your house? I found it was mainly cat hair that was getting caught up in the small tips of the cones, so I sawed off the tips to make the exits from the cones bigger. It was the same as the problem Dyson had with the very early DC07 cyclones, hence he "de-rooted" them on later model DC07's to stop them clogging up.

In my opinion now Bagless Vacuums are better than before, the fact that Dust Bins have the button to which the bottom opens is better than taking the lid off then tipping it upside down to where dust does get in your face.

I was at Costco Wholesale yesterday & saw the Dyson DC50 there, couldn't believe how small it was but it all depends on quality with Dyson these days.

Well the catch on the bins have been appearing for the last 5 years, Hi - Lo, maybe it is new at Hoover for the Jazz - but it was also a feature on the 2008 Hoover Slalom, a model I owned and sold and only recently bought again a couple of months ago.

The AirVolution filters on the Slalom block up quickly after about a month OR 2 to 3 months but it very much depends on the kind of dust and dirt you pick up with it. Even with a button release on the door at the bottom when dust gets stuck at the top no matter how much banging the Hoover dust bin off the sides doesn't dislodge, the whole process and point of HEPA filters etc get thrown out the window - as soon as the dust gets airborne - the filters won't save you then.

Also my Slalom has a problem just like the original had where the bin door doesn't actually open with the button release and has to be manually prised open to get it swing outwards.

Oh dear no surprise...

I was playing about with my Hoover Slalom earlier this morning and discovered more cat hair on the curtains. The speed of the Slalom's mini turbo brush is dreadfully slow though. I checked the filter and found it wasn't that clogged up since its last clean a month ago. However, for all that this piece of junk is smooth and made out of easy flow plastics, it does have a handy slider on the underside for cleaning- but seems to leak a lot of air as a result. Jammed on a Wilco Electrolux mini pet hair tool and OMG the difference immediately - much, much faster but at the detriment of having to unscrew two screws on the underside should it get clogged if the hair can't be picked out at the front.

Other surprises - the extension hose that I bought for my old orange Vax Mach Air clips easily to the clip ring of the Slalom's stretch hose after removing the lancer handle, giving me nearly 6 metres of stretch and being able to use decent universal 32mm tools without the nonsense of Hoover's restrictive ones. Cue Vax's cleaning kit type 1!

Didn't the DC07 launch in about 2001/2002? I believe that was the first to feature the bottom-bin release.

Probably Chris, but I was referring to the Hoover brand and associated models in that post. Infact when I think about it, the first model from Hoover that featured a bottom trapdoor release button that I owned was a Hoover Alyx upright, (the original model based on the Dirt Devil Vibe from the U.S) SIX years ago. It was a short lived vacuum that my aunt was given for her carpeted caravan which seemed to do well there (ASDA"s Genie exclusive was also the first model based on the Hoover Alyx/DD Vibe thereafter).
