Hoover Duster?

Bought this little vac for $1 the other day, and it still works too!

Can't find much about it except it looks like the Hoover "Minor", so I'd guess it's from the 30's or 40's.

Just now noticed 60 Cycles to DC, which tells me this was made when the utilities still supplied DC to customers! That right there dates it to 20's to 30's!

The cord looks like a replacement, and I'll probably put a new cord on from the switch to the motor for safety. Unfortunately it has no attachments or bag, but still a cool find, and my oldest Vac!

Hoover Minor

We has two version here which, although superficially identical, are different in several respects. They are basically just the standard upright motor turned sideways.

If I remember what I have been told they were sold with or without tools so that someone who had bought tools for their upright could use them with the minor - a more expensive but greatly more convenient option.

This is a picture taken in 2008 - neither of these machines are mine.

Cool pics Vacbear! So I take it the hose and attachments aren't impossible to get?
The bag on the other hand, I'm guessing would be pretty hard to get, as there aren't probably many left.

Neat little machines-the answer to a canister vac at that point from Hoover.Why would you want the carpet tool if this machine was going to be a companion to an upright?Think a bare floor tool and the hand tools would be more useful.Thought those machines in general were now hard to get.

Hose and tools should be reasonably easy to track down, it is my understanding that hose and tools from any "coffee can" Hoover (pre model 150 or 25) should fit or at least from model 700 onwards - basically the sort where the hose adaptor fits over the fan chamber (NOT model 305). Over here they are not that common but they are not THAT rare either, just a matter of patience I am afraid.

I guess the bag will be pretty rare, however it would not be that hard to make up a replacement.

Whilst this machine could be sold as a companion to an upright model it was not sold exclusivly so, hence the need for a carpet nozzle when it was sold on its own, with tools

Now I get it-the Hoover Duster wasn't meant to be a companion vacuum to a Hoover upright-would make a good one for that purpose!

See the link for the style of tools should be suitable for the Minor.

I am not suggesting you buy these (they are in the UK anyway) but you could look out on ebay for a set like this, the US ones should be very similar

In regards to the Hoover Duster's carpet nozzle, it would be a very useful attachment even if you already owned a Hoover upright for carpet cleaning since, with that low-profile nozzle attached to the long, slim wands, you can use the Duster to reach under beds, bureaus, and other low pieces of furniture that the upright would not be able to get under due to the height and bulk of the motor housing and the tendency of the inflated bag to push up on the handle even with it fully reclined.

I have a Hoover Portapower compact canister in addition to my Hoover uprights, and I find its combination rug/floor nozzle greatly helpful for cleaning under my large, heavy furniture. It allows me to pull out all the dust without my having to strain my back trying to pull the furniture out of position.
