Hoover Duros

Anyone tried one of the Hoover Duros cannister vacs?

I've seen the S3590B model at Costco, and looked at some on-line customer reviews, but am unsure if it's a good vac or not.

My home is mostly hardwood floors with area carpets in a couple of rooms. Currently I use a Bissell Butler on the hard flooring, and a Eureka Commercial (LS bags) on the carpets. Both work reasonably well but the Butler's hard floor tool tends to shove the dirt around instead of suck it up.

I rummaged through the box of old attachments, and found an old floor attachment I must have bought some 30 years ago. It's from PEC - Premier Electric Company - and it seems to work pretty good on the hard flooring. As I recall it never worked all that great on shag carpeting, but thankfully I haven't had to live with that stuff for 12 years now.

It's an interesting design: wood rollers with rubber o-rings fore and aft. In the middle are spring loaded brushes that are angled 45 degrees away from the motion. They are quite soft - feel like some sort of natural hair - and easily retract to conform to the flooring, and they seem to let small to medium size particles (kitty litter, mainly!) pass by and get sucked up into the vacuum.

So maybe I don't need the Duros after all. I can still use the Eureka upright commercial on the carpeting, where it works very well.

Hoover Duros...

The Duros is made for Hoover by Sanyo in China.

This machine is known to have some issues, most notably with the hose and wands. I personally would not recommend this machine.

Your Bissell Butler with a good floor brush would be a much better choice than the Duros, and I am glad to hear you have found a brush that works with the machine. The Butler uses 1 3/8" attachments, so it might be possible to find a generic one instock at a local vacuum store if you needed one. A Miele or Lindhaus floor brush would work, but would have been more costly.

Hoover Duros...

I have one,Ive had it for 4or5 years and for the money its not to bad but there ARE issues, the hose needed tape before its first year at the canister end (I tink because its so short and not connected well) and its not to good on bare floors unless you have a good floor tool as it doesn't come with one. Also it kind of cumbersome and dosn't deep clean thick carpeting at all, the suction is great even when the bag is near full/full but the PN brushroll is sub-par the brushes wear quick also. Right now i just use the vac as a kick around for the unfinished part of the basment till it crokes lol.I would stick with the Bissell and Eureka as well,at least till you find something else you like.
