Hoover Dirt finder

So this was one of the very first USA derived hoovers I had come across here in Sa. During the late 90's Uk hoover pulled out and a new company took over and they sourced their vacuums from the USA. This was the TOL model retailing for almost R 3000.00 back then ( about the equivalent of $ 300.00 back in the late nineties.

I got a poor example in early 2000 but it was badly damaged, kept it never the less.

A few weeks back my Friend Wesley found one but while its body was ok the power drive and dirt finder function didn't work, the brush is also caput.. We did a deal for a machine he wanted and Joanne arranged a courier to collect it, Its be standing for a few weeks but I am finally getting to get it sorted. It needs quiet a bit of work but I am very excited to get it working.

With this machine I now have the entire Hoover upright range from the late 90's, still to be found are the cylinders and a spin scrub

My mother in law had those dirt finders on her maroon color Hoover upright.
Eureka even offered one that used batteries on their high end cylinders.

Best of luck finding nice Dimension 1000 series and Spirit cylinder's as well as Celebrity air ride's. They are out there, mostly in the US for sure.
John Long may be able to assist, as well as Rob Shore. Both are big Hoover collectors.
I do believe the first Hoover 1000 series electronic sold in the USA was actually made in France. Just the cylinder. The power nozzle was Hoover USA's own Quadraflex used in the Celebrity series flying saucer style vac's.

I have one of these in navy blue. It's a great cleaner. I thought it was kind of odd the dirt sensor light on mine is controlled by a 9 volt battery.

The motor is in good condition, The bearings are still very good so I decided not to change them.

Neat Hoover!

It's like a hybrid of a Concept and an Elite; I see parts from both! The transmission is much like a Concept's, but the motor is all Elite!
