So I was out thrifting at a Good Will store a while ago and in the back in a big pile a junk I happened to notice a gas pump style handle with electronic controls on it. I thought that it must go to something nice, so after a little bit of digging, here was this laying at the bottom of the junk bin.

Bargain of the century

This one is almost mint condition, with only a few scratches scuffs. All of the attachments were there and the first owner even thought to tape the owners manual to it. All of this was mine for only $2!!

Took it home

Once I got it home and took it for a spin, I really fell in love. The Quadraflex head is easily the best power nozzle I have, and all that suction is nice too. However, after living with it for a while, a few things came to light. First off, the filtration leaves a bit to be desired. I have sinus and allergy problems, so I really wish it was better. I wanted to use the Quadraflex head on other machines, but the unique wand design prevented me from doing so. The other big issue it parts. It seems that I have a better chance of ordering a unicorn than I do brush strips. Therefore, I like to use it every now and then to really give my carpet a good deep cleaning.

Eureka Power Nozzles

So after reading the forums here, I discovered Eureka had a similar product, the VGIII. I've been looking for a Eureka canister or power nozzle (for a reasonable price of course) and I came across this.

Not a VGIII...

but it's a start. I think I'll try it out for a while before I buy the rather expensive VGIII for it. When I took it part though, I found some unfortunate sights.

I was thinking about getting a eureka just like that. Did you find that rally on ebay? I was thinking about getting it, but I found a red one that should arrive soon.

What to do

I'd love to hear your opinion on the various Eureka brush rolls and how they stack up to the Quadraflex.

Ian,

I hope you did not buy the red Rally I saw on eBay recently. It looks like it is in excellent condition, but the one I saw was missing both large rear wheels! I suppose you might be able to find replacement wheels....but this may be difficult.

Love Hoover Dimension canisters. Yes filtration is not good. Its possible you may be able to find Hoover M bags made by a generic company in Micro filtration. Also possible you may be able to put a stronger filter in there. I remember the filters on those were big for a canister about 6"x6".

Terrific cleaners though. For $2, I can't believe that!!! If you take care of it, you'll get many years of use out of those brushes, I found they wear pretty well. By take care of it, I mean don't let anyone run the power head with brush turning on hard surface.

Enjoy the Hoover Dimension 1000 and Eureka Rally. I only wish I live closer to Nebraska. I love Power Nozzle canisters.

Happy Hoovering!

I remember those!

NEW, I dont collect anything newer than the very early seventies myself, but I can tell you, the Eureka is ok, but that Hoover will suck chrome off a trailer hitch, I took a motor out of one one time and installed it in a Westinghouse Carousel canister...it was so powerful it collapsed the lid!!

I am SOOOO glad you found the replacement wheels for the Rally, Ian! Would be such a waste of a great vac if you could not wheel it around as it was meant to be used.

Post pics when you have a chance....

EP Brian :-)
