Hi guys I was wondering what the armature for the dial a matic is for? Is it for the motor to turn on? Thank you.

That is the main part that rotates in the motor. The carbon brushes contact 180 degrees from each other on the copper end, with electricity flowing through both them, and the motor field/coil. Both ends sit in a bearing, and one end protrudes, and you slip the belt on the end.

Thank u vacuumlad1650, I was curious about the part because I have a nice looking dial a matic 1149 from the 70’s I got on eBay back in August and the seller said it works great but when it arrived it doesn’t turn on which is taunting for me because I was looking forward using it.

that's way overkill for a machine that wont turn on. the switch is probably bad or the carbons are stuck on the armature. RARELY if ever do fields or commutators fail. ill bet its a dud/dead power switch on the handle.
