Just found a Hoover convertable. Pictures to come Don't know to. Much about it just yet but its got a roller instead of brushes it has metal strips. I have seen similar before. But not sure of the purpose

metal rollers,

On the brush, those are HOOVER'S famous beater-bars, of course! Found ONLY on a quality HOOVER vacuum! The patented 'beats, as it sweeps, as it cleans' action removes the deep-down damaging grit from your carpets! The Convertible 'dances' out grit!

Those metal beaters were a BIG thing back in the day, HOOVER not only patented the beater bar, but the brush roll itself! Airway tried to put a revolving brush on it's upright cleaners in the 1940s, which Hoover sued for. Airway, in turn, sued Hoover for using their patented disposable bag (Hoover's infamous Handisac, style W) on their model 62 (or 64-I forget).

Eureka eventually put beaters on their uprights, even the vibrating head on their vibra-beat canister nozzle. Vacuum companies used to follow the footsteps of HOOVER, it's a shame there's nothing left to follow but bagless tanks and plastic!

The HOOVER beater-bar, one of the best revolving brushes in vacuum history.
