Howdy, everyone

I picked up a Hoover Constellation along with its hose, box and some accessories. I also nabbed a caster set from a Filter Queen to make it mobile for larger rooms.

Before purchasing it, I looked on eBay and Google, and I’ve got a question about the logos and branding on my unit.

All the early Constellations I saw had a metal ring around the hose socket with “Hoover” and “Constellation” printed on it. Others also have a decorative metal plate between the round Hoover emblem on the canister’s side and rubber belt-line

Mine has none of this. Instead it has the stylized Constellation logo painted on the canister, just below the round Hoover emblem. Any print ads I found have the metal ring around the hose socket visible, so it doesn’t seem like the earliest units were missing “chrome” compared to later revisions.

There’s no damage to the paint or anything that would lead me to believe the ring was removed and discarded. And the painted Constellation logo, complete with a star-dotted “i” is far too nice to be something that was painted on aftermarket.

Was this a cheaper re-issue of the original model sold along-side the later floating models, is it just how constellations built and sold in Canada were made?

I don’t know, but I’m hoping someone here might have an answer

Hi Ian,

Your Constellation is the Canadian version of the first generation Constellation. The US model was 82, and the Canadian model was 824. The model numbers, and the absence of the ring on the Canadian model, are the only differences between the two that I know of. Nice machine!
