So i've starting working on this Hoover 61 and found that one of the carbon brushes is quite worn down and the bellows has multiple cracks and holes in it.

would parts from like a convertible be compatible with this or do i need to seek out something specifically for this? I've had no luck locating carbon brushes for a 61 in a brief search.

Hardware store

There is one near me but they don't sell carbon brushes. I don't think I've seen them in any hardware store before. Is there a certain chain that carries them?

If the collar is swapped, a Convertible bellow may work. You can get a carbon brush assortment online, or if you have calipers you can measure the width and height and go from there.

If they have those pull out trays of different size screws, nuts, bolts, fasteners, etc. one or two of those trays has carbon brushes for power tools, vacuums, mixers, etc.

Ask one of the people who work there, they can show you which trays have the carbon brushes in them.

I know my Royal uses the same brushes as either Black and Decker or Miller Falls tools, and I have picked up carbon brushes for a Hoover there. You just need to know the size of the brush.

oh neat.

Ray, thanks for the suggestion. It looks like the ACE closest to me doesn't carry them but there's one store in the area which does. I'm stopping by there today to see if I can find a compatible pair.

Madman, oh wow. I've always just searched for them by model of vacuum. it's never occurred to me to find a place that sells them like that. Probably would have saved money vs importing those Numatic carbon brushes a while back.

Quest: find carbon brushes ✔️

That ace did indeed have carbons, no one knew where to find them though as they didn't have a home space. They were in the electrical aisle.

Now if a replacement bellows can be found we'll be in business.

you can fix the bellows

with liquid electoral tape, it comes in a jar with a brush. just wash them good and super glue the seam back together, then put a few coats of liquid tape over the cracks.

Chris

PS

the carbon brushes are the same size a a Hoover convertible.

Bellows

If they were in better shape i may have tried that, but it's in a condition where it's like rotted and there are small cracks all over it.
