Last night I got busy and replaced the oil wick that runs down the center of the armature in my Hoover 541.
The wick is there to carry oil to the lower bearing. I think it would have been a little faster if I would have pre oiled the wick before putting it in the armature. I put it in dry and then spent the next couple of hours adding a drop or two at a time of oil to the top of the armature and waiting till there was oil at the hole for the lower bearing.
At least I know how to do it now.
