Despite the fact that I think sniping is kind of sneaky and underhanded, this auction is a stunning testament to the validity of doing so.
Because what's probably happened is several people have been watching the auction; one of them got excited and ran in to put a bid, then another excited person bid, then either the first person bid more or another person came along and put down a bid, until it escalated into a bidding war. (Only those participating know how it's actually gone down.)
Otherwise, these high bids would not have been seen until the auction was drawing to a close. However, when I looked at the auction last evening, it was already up to abour $350.00.
If, however, one of the interested parties had waited until the last few seconds to slip in a snipe bid, I'll bet you the final amount wouldn't have been anywhere near this high.......
As it is now, if there's someone watching it who really wants it and has been "laying low," the final bid amount could easily double... We'll know in a few minutes!!
Ohh, the drama! The suspense!! The excitement!!!
