It is to be believed that the all-rounded fan case design was used by Royal as late as October of 1984 (I know, because I remember a Royal 880 with a serial of #K84-D-73875, which had the rounded fan case I'm speaking of; "K84" is October 1984). Here is an Electro-Hygiene model 285 dated August 1980.

Note also, in the same picture, that the nozzle design lines around the Adjust-O-Rite opening date from as far back as January 1975, and ran up through the time Royal began revising their nozzle designs again in 2001, when TTI took over.

1974 and Earlier Nozzle Housing Design for 285, 606, 801

Here is the nozzle housing design Royal used on the 1974 and older species of models 285, 606 and 801. This view is from a model 606 sold to Certified, dated October 1971.
