I picked up the Philips cannister today. I truly was surprized at how quiet it is on it's low setting. You can barely hear it. It came with only one tool (upholstery), but came with 5 boxes of bags and filters.

There is a slide on the top, that you push aside. I'm guessing that is for a powerhead connection. I'd love to get a powerhead for it! Then I could make it a daily driver for my wall to wall carpeting.

Here's a possible reason we have a 110-Volt Philips vac

I love making these connections....

For years, Consumer Reports has given pretty good marks to an Oreck power nozzle canister called the "Dutch Tech". Now we know why it is called the "Dutch" Tech!!!! It's made by Philips of Holland! I'm sure you can get all the appropriate attachments for your vac through Oreck....

Here's a link to the Oreck Canada Canister webpage:

I forgot to mention...

that this is a 220v machine! I bought it from a young couple who used it in Romania 10 yrs ago before they imigrated to Canada. It's been in storage ever since.

I've just

checked your link. Well indeed the Dutch Tech vacuums are Philips in disguise! Good eye Brian! And I'm sure parts are indeed the same. I wonder how much a 110v motor would be? I do have a transformer, but I like to tinker!

Thanks Guy.....didn't realize you were getting a 220-volt vac.

I have a 220-Volt Eureka Mighty Mite II canister vac which is labelled a "World Vac" with the World Vac logo. I bought it before moving overseas for a half-year a few years ago. If you go to any 220-Volt store in Toronto or Montreal, you will see a small selection of 220-Volt Hoovers and Eurekas and other brands designed for any North Americans moving to 220-Volt countries!

So Sanyo makes the Hoover Duros, Samsung makes the Bissell Digipro, and Philips makes the Oreck Dutch-Tech. Ooooo, what a web these vac makers weave!!!

Incidentally, I love surfing websites of vac makers in other countries, and Philips has a really kewl line of vacs in Europe. Love their odd-shaped carpet-floor nozzle. I wish they would export 110-Volt versions of these for us in North America. "Stofzuiger" is the word for vacuum cleaner in Dutch!

nice one

Hi A philips turbo. It is very silent indeed. The problem with the power nozzle is that Philips never made one. There has been an introduction of it but it was to expensive to keep it up. I looked at german sites aswell and is olso nothing to be found. I know philips makes things for oversee, so it is possible that oreck will fit. Also whirlpool, ruton, erres are owned by Philips. look out for volt diference.
