Help with Rainbow and Hoover Dual V please

Hi I have a Hoover Dual V steam vac and recently let my sister in law use it, well I got it back about a week ago and today when I went to shampoo my carpets, I noticed it is not picking up like it use to. Usually after doing the first room and half my living room I have to empty the dirty water tank but today I was able to do 2 bedrooms and the living room without it needing to be emptied. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with it and how to fix it. Also what is the best way to completely clean and sanitize the whole machine? Okay my next question is about my rainbow, I have the blue E2 2 speed and would like to know exactly how to take it apart and clean the separator and filter, the salesman did not tell us about needing to clean it but after reading some stuff on here is how I found it out. We have had it for over a year now so I am sure it needs it. I paid way too much for it to have it neglected and not taken care of right. Any help would be very much appreciated.

No clue about the Dual V.

As for Rainbow 2 speed. To get the separator off just turn Rainbow upside down, unscrew the nut from the separator and it slides off. Clean the grooves of separator really good underneath running water. I personally do this after each time using my Rainbow. It tells exactly how to do this in the manual.

As for the hepa filter, Here is a video on youtube how to replace. I'm not sure what's up with that music, but whatever

On the Dual V. Check to make sure that the seals are in place, and that the top of the recovery tank is on firmly. Just a little corner that isn't snapped firmly in place will creat quite a suction loss.

Ok thanks for the help. I will have to see if that will work this weekend on the Dual V. Does anyone know how long the warranty is on them? I have had it since Oct 09.

Hi, I read your mention of the salesperson not telling you how to clean the separator. Therefore, I suggest that you find your user manual and read it thoroughly. A boring task -- yes -- bit it saves headaches. You should also check the HEPA filter -- you'll see how to in the manual.

And, though it may seem a little selfish, it's not great to lend out appliances to either friends or relatives until you're assured they are properly prepared to do basic maintenance by way of proper clean up before they return them to you. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't think much on the care of an appliance until they have to pay for one. I've always felt, who am I to deny them that privilege.
