Help with Kirby Heritage

I'm trying to replace a damaged hood on a Kirby Heritage with a new hood. What the best and easiest method for removing and replacing the hinge pin?

The headlight hinge pin is a bit of a tough job without the right tools, you need to pull out a small metal clip/spring thing (which gives the headlight it's stiffness when lifting & lowering), tap a flat-ended, round pin (like a nail with the pointed end cut off) into one side of the hinge, and it should come free, pull it out the rest of the way ith a pair of pliers, taking care not to crush the hinge pin...

I forget which side you have to tap on, but it's a 50-50 chance of getting it right...

Thank you so much for the help. I'm not seeing the clip/spring to remove. Which side it is located?

It goes across the hinge pin in the middle of the hinge, in the same direction as the plastic channelling for the wiring, if the headlight is easy to lift or is floppy and can't hold itself up, then it's already gone (either fell out or was removed but not put back in place), it's usually black and looks like a strip of metal folded about 4 times...

I'd supply a picture, but, I can't find the clip that came off one of mine...

The hinge pin in a Heritage is a piece of rolled aluminum. You'll need a long punch pin that is the diameter of the pin so you can drive it all the way through. Be very care full or you'll bust one of the lugs or even crack the fan case. It takes a little finessing to get everything leveraged just right, but you can do it!
