Help needed: Dyson DC22

Has anyone here ever had the need to open up one of these? I need to get into mine to get to the cord reel and think I saw screw heads behind one of the wheels. I'd need to remove the wheel to get to the screws but I', trying to figure out how. There seems to be a cap covering the axle of the wheel. How do I remove this cap without scratching it?

The caps do lever off, but make one hell of a noise doing so! I stripped one down a while ago, link below. Got one now thats missing all its tools, but was free. That's been refurbished too but just sat under the bed!

Does it have the Digital motor in it? If so, does it really seem all that much more powerful than a standard brushed motor?

It does have the digital motor and it's a beast! I've never ever felt suction like this on a Dyson before.

The UK DC22 doesnt have a digital motor, we get a YDK brushed motor, same one in a dc25 upright!

Well this model never lasted very long in the US. I never understood why.

The dc22 is one of those models that atleast in my country never sold as well as say the dc23 or the dc19 it replaced here.

I had one and I curse the day I sold it to a customer who really wanted one.
That Panasonic ( Not ydk ) motor it shares with the dc25 is one of the best modern day vacuum motors. They tend to go on and on and on.

I took off the small flat out head on my one and fitted the turbine head from the dc52. It was a awesome cleaning machine. Think I need to get one again. Only trouble is customers love them. I will have to offer one a really good trade in on a dc52 lol

I dont see many about either tbh, although ive rebuilt one thats used in a dentist surgery and my aunt kurb-found me a dc22 with no tools in proper shop vac condition

Does the DC15 use the DC25 motor? they look similar and seen a few dead ~DC15's recently, never seen a blown up/dead DC25 yet apart from one

Gareth, I do know that the DC22 didn't really do well here either and I feel very lucky to have it. I think the noise level of the machine might have been enough to scare people away. The motor has a pitch to it that's identical to the Air Blade hand dryer.

I'm thinking along the same lines as you about a different turbine. The standard issue turbine is more than adequate, but I feel that the machine could work just as well with one of the others. You know more about Dyson than I do. Which model of turbine should I be looking for? The DC52, or Cinetic as it is called here, is too new in our country and the website doesn't show spares available for it yet. Do you suppose the DC39 turbine head would work? I don't care about not having the "Trigger" switch control and it looks identical to the DC52 turbine.

The dc37/39 trigger head will work aswell.

What will happen from time to time if you take off the floor tool while the machine is running you will engage the trigger head vavle switch off due to the drop in Neggative pressure. The brush will stop turning but all you need to do is to repeat the process and it will start again.
