Very good video-never had to deal with these cueing levers and damper mechanisms.Most of the TT's I worked on were broadcast ones that do not have cue levers.However----The serviceman should put the TT on a pad of some sort so as to not scratch the top of the dust cover.Padded and clean benches are essentual for working on TT's.The few TT's in the stations I dealt with the TT's with cue levers were in production studios-not air studios so they didn't get hard use.And even in the production studios the cue levers weren't used much.The fast descent of that arm-can also damage styli as well as records.And not to mention make a loud THUMP thru your speakers as the arm lands on the record.Not good for amps or speakers.

He mentioned in the video clip the TT wasn't his-all the more he should take precautions to protect the machine-Don't think the owner would like a scratched dust cover even though the TT would work properly.When I had similar TT's I protected their dust covers with a pad made from a clean folded towel.If you should want to sell the TT at a later date becuase you found a better one you liked more-scratched dustcovers turn buyers off even if the TT works properly.Remember those days when you could buy decent Hi-fi equipment that was affordable-now its harder to find such things.You either have the choice of cheap all plastic flimsy TT's or those hi end ones where you need a second mortgage on the house to buy it.

Your not kidding, you just about have to sell a kidney to afford to buy one, nowadays! I think you'll be far better off getting a nice vintage machine and fixin' it up...your bank account will love you for it. I think your right again: His cure for the turntable was almost as bad as the disease itself!
I am for that idea of looking for an older peice of gear-but careful---The "audiophools" are pricing those in the second mortgage category!Seen the prices on some of the Hi-fi consoles and equipment in the Appliance site threads?I keeping the Rega TT I bought years ago-and have some Technics TT's I got from a radio station for fixing their transmitter.They still work.

If you are looking for a Decent TT I happen to have a nice Technics SL-D2 direct drive unit that I am possibly getting rid of. works great and plays beautifully!

Right now I am not looking for a TT-since I have those that came from a radio station-several of them.They are in storage now-waiting in case I do need them.My Rega is doing fine.Maybe someone else on the Vacuum club who is looking for a TT may be interested.
