This may be the last model.....
This may well be the very last model of the M series Eureka's before they changed over to the D272, which I have dated back to at the earliest 1946. The difference with the D272 is that the outer body casings were smoother, and more rounded, in step with 1940's era streamlining. The M's clearly have a more shapely "art deco" 1930's form that is older looking compared to the sucessor machine.
The M-61A was even possibly a lower priced model sold along side the new D272, as the colours are stikingly similar. It was; not unlike Hoover, for Eureka to have a "Special" model that was a rebuilt former machine. I have only seen one other M series Eureka at a Estate Sale Shop in Lanisng Mi, where it sit's with a Hoover 28 and an Orig Rexair A complete with tools.
No amount of money has ever been enough to budge any of them out of their hands. Guess that's a sign. That Eureka model M that they have is all chrome, polished look, with black trim and bag with The EUREKA logo written in fancy 1930's Cursive. this is kind ofin parlance with the Kiby 505, or earlier models. The Eureka cursive is in a yellowy white tho?.
That siad, this M-61A is in fair to VG shape IMHO, and should fetch the cash, as there aren't too many of the original motor driven brush Eureka's out there...as compared to the several Hoover brand machines form that same vintage.
I have a D272, and it's smooth, powerful and silent on low speed, yet still cleans. On High speed, while not a Hoover still did a exemplary job on rugs whenever I've tested it personally. Even on HIGH it still hums and vibrates...a wonderufl duplex of sound. Again IMHO Every bit as good as the Eureka series that post-suceeded the 272 era around 1949 or so...
I'd buy the Eureka M-61A , but it is not in the cards right now....
