FTC Digs Dirt up on Oreck

To be honest, I've never been convinced by Orecks, anything with a motor and fan smaller than a Hoover Junior is not going to be as great as they claim, and going by this little revelation, I think people are noticing that they're claiming more than they're providing...

The newer Orecks are

very very good , especially the Platinum Pilot . They stopped making the Halo and don`t sell it anymore. They now make the Edge which is a spin off of the Halo minus the lights. I hear the Edge is a very good vacuum also . I will be buying one soon. From 2009 and up orecks really improved and mostly this years are really the best .

Still won't give up my tried and true Kirby Heritage II. I use all makes and models in the janitorial service. I still haven't found anything that would serve me as well. One thing I did find impressive was a Beam built in vacuum. I have thougth about that for the time my loyal kirby gives up the ghost and can't be repaired to my level of satisfaction.

I agree with KirbyloverDan

I think the new ORECKS are great. I will admit I use to hate Orecks. But since I have my XL21 I have changed my thinking about Orecks.Granted I only use the Oreck for a quick run through of the house, it works great for that and it is relatively more powerful and Quiet then previous models. But I still stick to my good old Kirby's when I want to do a deep down cleaning...... A Satisfied Oreck Owner Dan

This is kinda funny i felt like the UV light was a joke.... Really i don't mind Orecks whether old or new style but i prefer the new style for serious cleaning i also like the older style due to memories of the commercial

FTC digs up more dirt on Oreck

I can give you a summary on the newer Oreck XL21 Platinum. I had the ealier "yellow" Oreck. The difference I could see was the new machine was MUCH,MUCH more quiet, had a better on floor lighting system and had the larger diameter fill tube to prevent clogging and better air flow.
The newer model has a much better handle that can be hung on the clothes rod and a secondary carry handle in the back that is perfectly balanced. The hand vac system can even be hang on the handle for storage in the closet.
For me ,I sold the first yellow Oreck. I hated it and was quiete surprised when I used the XL21 Platinum for the first time.
Also the small canister vac was improved on the second version that came with my Oreck XL21 System. It has more air flow and better attachment set with longer hose and telescopic wand and real horse hair brushes on the floor tool and dusting brush. Also has a hepa filter on the back and can be fitted with a portable set of optional wheels for mobility. It like the upright is much quieter.

Sounds like the Oreck XL21 is worth scoping out and trying. And if the canister vacuum has been improved-thats worth looking at,too.Like the idea of the larger fan and larger bore airpath-less clogs and the motor could run at lower speed-quieter.No more "Banshee" screams?the XL21 sounds like an Oreck worth having.

Rex if I were

you I would look for a newer Oreck XL Gold or the Platinum Pilot . These two machines have been improved with a new belt called Endurolife belt . A lifetime belt which is a great improvement. I own a Simplicity F3700 that also has a lifetime belt.I am sure you will be impressed with the new Orecks.

But where are these new Orecks being manufactured? Since Oreck moved to Cookeville, Tenn. and acquired the floundering Halo, more and more of their production has moved overseas. I see Oreck even has a new compact canister which I'm sure is manufactured in China now too. While the new models may be better in terms of performance, it's a shame this once-proud American company has now outsourced most of its manufacturing. A sad sign of the times....

I had my own thoughts that the UV light germ killer was so much bush-wah, ballyhoo and balderdash. The FTC finding just confirms it. Not long ago, I worked on an Oreck knock-off that had the same feature. Only I think it had a dual purpose as a signal lamp, because it constantly flickered.
