Hi there. Found this this morning going through a friend's electrical store loft!
Anyone know the date and model number and does anyone have one?

The sticker is yellow...

So I thought there may have been a yellow and white Convertible in the mid 1970s?

There was!

Jonathan
The last mainstream DAM/Convertible(UK) was indeed yellow and white. Made in France the flex and switch were mounted on the body of the cleaner rather than the handle. The burgundy DAM which emerged at the end of the 1980s, several years after the DAM had been dropped from the main product range, was a special - I believe it was carried by Allders and possibly House of Fraser

Thanks for the info!

Thanks everyone for the helpful info and for the great brochure photo Vacbear. Is it from 1976? Cool Starlights too -didnt know they came in 2 colours.
Stephen Ive had a look at the underside and yes it must be new old stock - it is immaculate. This has certainly never been used.

There were 2 Turbopowers, several Juniors - 1346 etc. and other modern machines from Electrolux etc. How rare are the Turbopowers - not really my area of interest. No older machines.

Does anyone have a U5010 - do you have a photo of it for the VCCC forum?
Ive never actually owned a UK Convertible so I will have to look out for one now!

hello , I have a pair of them (1976 ), sure not in marvellous conditions, but I have them, I also have four of the next version in white/yellow. I'll post some pictures as soon as I can find them.

Nice Leaflet!

Thanks for posting the Hoover leaflet Tommy. Really interesting. Looks like this model was called the Convertible in Europe, not just UK.
They’re rare now aren’t they – hardly ever see them on ebay.

If you have time I’d love to see pics of your Convertible collection – sounds like you have quite a number!

Regards, Jonathan

Looks like it anyway!

Jonathan, it certainly looks like New Old Stock; that's a great find.

Some years ago I saw a yellow U5010 on a car boot sale for about £10 and dismissed it at the time, being not all that old/collectable in my book. However, since then I've only seen the very odd one.

More recently there was a guy on Ebay selling a similar yellow model, which looked like it had been imported from Europe. IIRC, it had a Buy It Now price of £200. I didn't feel like running to that but it was nice though.

WOW!

Ive never seen so many Convertibles in one place! A great collection Tommy. Thanks for posting them. I'll definately have to get one myself now!
Best wishes, Jonathan

Indeed, you have a beautiful collection of Dial-A-Matics (er, I mean Convertibles)! I only wish Hoover produced them a little longer in this country. I love the all gray and mint green/dark green models. Do you have any of the burgundy models from the late '80's? That one was stunning.

eheheh thank you!
no I'm sorry here in Italy the grey/lightgrey U 5076 was the last Convertible available in Italy, the same model was in burgandy in other european countries lotta ike belgium, Germany and France, where euro convertibles were made.
gotta find out the other pictures as soon as I can
cheers
