Found an Electrolux Model 1521...

Hey, thanks for the box photo. Looks like Electrolux has typos on a lot of their literature -- I've seen it time and time again as "Marquis."

I found an Electrolux 1521

Out of the carton. I did buy a white dusting brush at the time of purchase. Note the chrome wands. It has a very Electrolux sound. I could not put my hands on the bill of sale but believe me it's here somewhere! It seems like it was $589.95 or $689.95 back in 1988.

And thanks Nicholas for the older thread. This topic really does fascinate me now, wondering why the same model number was used for so many different machines. In the past, Electrolux has had models that were very similar, nearly identical, yet they received different models.

I found a Electrolux 1521

Charlie,
You almost forget how well made the Electrolux's were even 20 years ago. The attention to detail was neat and the instruction book still had "real" pictures.
I got a big kick out of the way you said your mom said
"EEELECTrolux. My grandmother's family said it SAME way!
It was never get the vacuum out-always get the EEELECtrolux out, and then of course the next thing out of their mouths was to me, LEAVE IT ALONE-lol
I am sure many of these older Lux's will still be working after our new Dyson's and Hoover's of today are long gone.

Well, I got the hose I'd ordered from eBay. Color-wise, it's a perfect match and the gas-pump handle is comfortable. However, the seller neglected to mention that the hose handle does not swivel, making it a pain to use. It also doesn't have a suction relief valve.

The seller has another hose that does swivel and actually costs a few bucks less. I have emailed to see if he'd agree to an even exchange but haven't heard back from him.

What I'd really like to find is the later genuine Electrolux Ultralux Classic vinyl hose. It's really pretty, and would match my machine perfectly. Alas, so far, none have turned up anywhere. You can see the hose in this YouTube video, and that sure is a glamorous-looking Ultralux!

The hose is shot because it's a woven hose with a rubber inner core. The rubber dries out over the years and develops cracks and fissures and eventually bits of it start flaking off. This of course negates the airtight seal necessary for good suction.

The original hose looks lovely but is useless for cleaning because it is not at all airtight.

Plus, as I mentioned, Electrolux's woven electric hoses were too short, too stiff and too heavy. "HAAAAAATE 'em."

The Happy Saga Continues

I finally heard from the eBay seller I got the gas-pump hose from, and he agreed to make an even trade on that one for this one. I just got it today. See photos.

It's a wonderful hose, not genuine Electrolux but I am nonetheless pleased that it's such a perfect match for the Grand Marquise and that it's very well made.

I just noticed that in these photos the handle appears to be a slightly different color than the rest of the machine. That's only an artifact of the photo: In "real life" it's all a perfect color match.
