Found an Electrolux Model 1521...

I have just received a very lovely Electrolux Model 1521. That model was made in a variety of colors. The one I just got is a creamy gray color with dark blue accents; I believe it's called the Ultralux, although I thought there was an Ultralux logo on the back end. Maybe it got rubbed off or something...? Or is it NOT an Ultralux? I've attached a couple of photos of it.

As you can see, it's in nearly-new condition! Hardly a flaw on it at all. It came with the original hose (which is shot; I've already found a replacement coiled vinyl hose with gas pump handle), power nozzle & wand, Sidekick, and a bare-floor brush.

This is the newest Electrolux I've ever had and I will say, I really love it, especially the elegant color scheme.

It would be GREAT to find an original matching dusting brush for it. I know I've seen them; it's just a matter of finding one. It is light creamy gray in color (not white, off-white, beige etc.), and I believe (if I am thinking of the same model) the front 'face' of it has a sort of pattern or texture to it - e.g., not smooth like the older ones but sort of mottled.

Anyone got one? I'll take it if you do, at your cost plus shipping.

Also, if anyone has a pair of aluminum wands in flawless condition, I'd like to get those as well. I do have a s#!tload of 'em, but none of them are in really new, mint condition.

And ... if anyone has a matching crevice tool, it would be nice to have it to complete the set.

Nice colours, almost like my lux Z500, but wth more blue bits...

Just out of curiosity, is the hose electrically shot or leaks like a sieve shot? If the latter, I'm sure I heard about someone who can line the inside of woven hoses with something that seals them and stops the leaking, not sure who or where though...

Hello Mr Lester. Great vac!! Its nice when you get hold of nice vacs in good condition.
More often than not if I'm givern a vac is normally in poor condition or its one you already have 5 of. Normally they just ant to off load there junk on to you.

But every so often something nice turns up...

Hi Mr. Lester! I believe that was called the Grand Marqise model of Lux. The Ultralux was very similar but with chrome on top instead of blue and did have a label on the top saying Ultralux. My Grandparents have the Ultralux. Later, Trg

Hi all, yes, I have been told by several folks that this is a Grand Marquise. I got sent a photo of an Ultralux. It sure is pretty with the metallic trim piece on top -- so much so that I'm tempted to change out mine with one!

It is a really nice vacuum cleaner, and best part ... it meets the "Arlee Seal of Approval!!" There are very few vacuum cleaners that have come into our home that he has actually "oohed-and-aahed" over, and this is one of 'em!

Charles, DON'T THROW OUT THAT HOSE!!!.....

There is a product you can get called Plastidip that you can use to reseal the hose. You just apply 3 coats on the outside of the hose, making sure the first coat gets worked in well, & it should be restored to as good as new! It is available in most hardware stores, & I would imagine Home Depot or Lowes would have it, but you might have to special-order it in Clear for this particular application.

That's one nice Electrolux you got there....in really nice shape! Who gave you the vacuum? It would be interesting to hear this vacuum's story....looks like it was just stored away & never used....

Thanks for the tip on the Plastidip. I wasn't going to throw out the hose -- it is beautiful cosmetically but really leaks like a sieve. I'll keep it for presentation purposes but can't see using it.

Besides, I never have liked these later Electrolux electric hoses.

They're too short for one thing. Every time you move the wand to and fro while vacuuming, the machine wibble-wabbles back and forth because the hose is so sort that there's no play in it. Very annoying.

Also, these hoses are very heavy and stiff, making them (in my opinion) difficult to use.

The replacement hose I've gotten is really nice. It's longer, more flexible, and has a gas-tank type handle which is really cool. Not Lux genuine but for this machine, as new as it is, that really does not bother me.

I got the machine right here in Vacuumland. A couple weeks ago "meba2233" posted a message "Vintage Vacuum Cleaners for Sale" (see link) and the Grand Marquise was one of them. I got a VERY good deal on it, as I have with several other things I've purchased from him. "What a guy!"

Found an Electrolux 1521

Charlie,
I went to Electrolux and picked out an Ulta-Lux for use in our church. It was similar to yours BUT it had a piece of chrome or stainless steel trim on the top. I also think it had chrome hub caps and it said Ultralux somewhere on the machine. It was a very deluxe looking machine.
Yours is a beautiful machine too.
Also I have a new in the box Electrolux Grand Marquise and it was bought about 1987. It is a two tone mauve color.

Found an Electrolux model 1521

Correction to my post. I went down an got my Electolux out of her box. Mine says Marquise on the box NOT Grand Marquise.
Now here is the confusing part. It says model 1521 on the front cover. I bought this NEW myself in 1988 from the Electrolux branch new in a sealed box. It is a two-tone mauve color and it came with CHROME wands not aluminum.

Wow nice find! That is a great color scheme. If you like the chrome trim you should get one of those too!
I have one just like this (not as nice condition though) that I trade off as a daily driver.
Someday I would love to get the one that has the blue body with the white trim. Too bad when I do see them the price is sky high.

I've never seen one with blue body and white trim. I'll bet it's really pretty.

I am finding it hard to resist the urge to "trick out" my Grand Marquise like an Ultralux! I just LOVE chrome and shiny bits, and I think this machine, lovely as it is, would look stunning with a chrome roof and hub caps!

Now, this is interesting...



Here's an Ultralux on ebay that looks more like a Grand Marquise -- the top trim piece is blue instead of chrome and the wheel insets are also blue instead of chrome.

Found an Electrlux 1521

Charlie,
Now you have Mike Hays and I looking at our machines!
I went down and got mine out of the box to recheck the model number. It is 1521 and the power nozzle says Electrolux Power Nozzle on the top and in the front it says "omiflow automatic". The seriel number is m45828a. That number is on the top of the machine on a sticker and on a label on the Electrolux carton. The power nozzle says model pn6a.
The machine says made in USA. Bristol,Va.
The outside of the carton says The Electrolux Corporation,3003 Stanford Ct. No place on the machines does it say "Marquise"
but the Electrolux carton says "Marquise" on the side.
It is a beautiful machine and very powerful.

Well, as I have found out, there were at least five "iterations" (and maybe more) of the Model 1521 with the same model number but different style names. Let's see, there's:

Diamond Jubilee
Grand Marquis
Legacy
Ultralux
Ultralux Classic
Ultralux LX (w/ a very fancy crown logo)

To complicate things even further, there's also an Ultralux upright, and a plastic-body Ultralux similar (identical?) to the Diplomat.

btw, "Marquise" is spelled "Marquis" on all the Electrolux "models history" literature I've come across, but I'm also seeing it spelled "Marquise."

Rob, how is it spelled on your carton? Maybe there was a Marquis and a Marquise?? Could you post some photos of yours?

Here we go Charlie. I don't think she has been out of the box more than 3-4 times I do remember Tom Gasko put a meter on it and said it was one of the most powerful Lux's he had seen.
That was years ago and of course now the "original"hose leaks air and it has never been used!
