Found a small bowl for my Mixmaster :)

So you may remember my harvest gold Mixmaster that was almost complete with beaters and dough hooks. But I only had the large bowl. So today I went to some estate sales. One near my house, in the pictures there was a beautiful chrome Sunbeam Mixmaster that I'm guessing was from the 50s or early 60s (it had the smiley face vent on the motor) with white bowls. But it was already sold when I got there. At another estate sale, I saw a harvest gold MMA model late 60s/early 70s with beaters and bowls, but they wanted $50.

At Goodwill yesterday though, I saw a small glass bowl that looked like a Mixmaster bowl but I wasn't sure. I looked it up last night and it seemed to be for one. So I went back and got it today. Even though it doesn't say Fireking for Sunbeam like my other, or anything at all, it seems to fit fine. It may just be from a later model but it does fit.

I think this will make my mixer work better. The large bowl I had was usually too big for what I was making and it seemed the beaters never went deep enough into the batter. Can anyone say how well the small bowl works vs large bowl? I know it will be easier to handle and wash too. There is a lot of difference in the sizes which surprised me.

Yes, the later clear glass bowls were unbranded. I have one unbranded set and one Fire King set with a spout molded into the rim of each.

I'm late to this posting but,

isn't there a way to adjust the height of the mixer to bowl ratio? I know on the older models there was an adjusting screw on the neck of the base, stand I mean. Somewhere there must be. I've had to raise/lower a few of the Sunbeams depending on which bowl I use. Even switching from glass to a chrome metal bowl requires adjusting . I think it depends on which supplier made the bowls. The appliance repair center that I go to says that with KitchenAid mixers the factory uses a rubber mallot hammer and hits the paddle from on top, to adjust if the paddle is too high in the bowl. He also said that placing a dime in the bottom of the bowl and running the mixer with the paddle just barely making contact with said dime is the correct height to go for. Interesting.You can take the top portion of your mixer off fairly easy and that may be where the adjusting screw is, good luck with that.

Hi, yes, if you tilt the head back there is an adjustment screw on the bottom. I've never messed with it. What I meant on the beaters not getting deep enough in the batter, is that with a large bowl the batter spreads out more unless you have a lot of batter, so it only covers the very bottom of the beaters. A smaller bowl will give you greater beater depth when mixing smaller amounts of batter. I'm assuming the height is properly adjusted because the little button on the left beater seems to contact the bowl properly to rotate it. There's about two quarters thickness of clearance between the bottom of the beaters themselves and the bowl.

There's also another adjustment on the underside of the base to adjust the left/right positioning of the turntable. This is to properly position the curved beater on the left to the concave side of the bowl. I've never adjusted this either. The later models when they went to the rounded base without the bowl selector lever (you just picked up the turntable and put it into the correct hole for the bowl size, did not have this.

I also have a newer retro style Mixmaster and it has neither the height nor turntable positioning adjustments.

That's interesting on the KitchenAids, I've never used one so I didn't know how they adjusted them, or that they could be adjusted.
