Extra long wand attachment for Dyson DC17?

This is something that's been on my mind for quite a while now.

My current home has extra high ceilings and windows which have been impossible to reach with ANY vacuum I currently own. I did some measurements, and the ceiling is 15 feet high from the downstairs floor. When I'm halfway up the stairs, the ceiling gets to 9.5 feet. And when I'm at the balcony upstairs, the 3 windows are about 9 feet away.

The wand on my Dyson DC17 is 3 feet long. So I'm wondering if there is some kind of extra long wand attachment that is compatible with my machine? The DC17 does not have a click-fit system, just a standard 1 1/4" fitting.

What about calling Nacecare? The representatives for Numatic Henry in North America? I know they have an extra reach Henry with a 13 foot hose, but considering they also offer commercial Henrys, they might even have a wand long enough for your needs. It’s certainly worth it to send an email enquiry to them in Toronto.

I have the "high up" attachment kit for my NSS M1 vacuums!Would reach in that space with no problems.

Would these work?

I found this lot of 3 plastic extension wands on Amazon. When all 3 of them are attached, they allow for 44.1 inches (3.675 feet) of reach. So if I were to buy 2 sets of these wands, they might just allow me to reach the faraway windows. What are your thoughts?

This is a really interesting question and challenge. Most people would advise just using a Swiffer duster on a very long extension handle. If the places you are trying to clean are so far away, you probably can not see that far to know where to go to vacuum up dust and dirt.

It would seem that the only way to do a thorough clean up there once or twice a year would be with a high ladder and a nice long stair hose attached to a vacuum sitting safely on the floor. So your real challenge is to buy the safest ladder you can find so that you (or a cleaning service) can safely get up to those areas with one hand on a vacuum hose.

I can’t imagine a cordless stick vac would be comfortable enough (or powerful enough) to use for any extended time reaching up to very high places.

Update and Test

I ended up buying 2 packs of those extension wands on Amazon, during their Prime Early Access Sale. They arrived yesterday, so I put them to the test.

The wands themselves are thin and glossy, and they fit perfectly on the end of my Dyson's wand. The attachments fit on the ends perfectly as well. Using one set, I was able to reach from the middle of the stairs to a cobweb on the ceiling directly above me. That worked out very well.

So I opened and attached the other set of 3 wands to the existing set, and the 2 sets together appeared bent, which made the entire setup feel awkward and flimsy; it made me concerned that the wands would fall off, despite the fact that I tightened them snugly. But I vacuumed with them, and I was able to get the cobwebs off the faraway windows, while standing right by the balcony railing.

So, were these wands worth it? Yes, despite the fact that they were small and thin.
