Eureka The Boss Smart Vac.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know of my most recent find, My Eureka Smart Vac. This is a vac i have been searching high and low for for about 10 months. I called goodwill on monday to see if they have vacs they said they have a few but they did not say what. So i went and I saw a Dirt Devil Dynamite 2 decided no because i have the original, They had a Eureka Excaliber that has been there for 2 weeks, They also had a wierd maroon kenmore, It had a brush on off, Wand release for the hose and the wand was metal, The filter you could take out the front of the dust bin and clean. BUt i saw a Eureka Smart vac and i was very happy. Its very nice just had to unclog the hose. Works nicely and is very quiet.

This Eureka upright is still on the current list of tested cleaners at Consumer Reports. It is an excellent carpet cleaner and is tagged "recommended" by the testing team. It also has three separate classic World Vac style attachments on-board: dusting brush, upholstery nozzle and crevice tool. Brush shuts off for tool use and bare floor cleaning too!!!

Eurekaprince i am missing the Dust Brush and Upholstery unfortunately but the crevice has never been used

You'll need to find the World Vac tools in order for them to fit into their storage spots on the back of the cleaner. Let me see if I can post a link or two to show you what they look like.

Eurekaprince should i pick up the Eureka Excailbur? Its $15 and has most attachments. Its the Green one.

Oooh...cool! The Excalibur came with the same attachments you need for the SmartVac. Might be worth it if the tools are on the Excalibur and in good shape. The Excalibur was not the greatest vac and if I remember correctly, the power panel used to burn-out because it was not designed to properly handle the power for two motors. But it's got an interesting "Quick Draw" design: when the hose end is removed from its storage slot, the brush roll motor turns off and the suction is redirected into the hose.
....all automatically!

are excailburs uncommon?

Yes. Very rare. The Eureka Excalibur Canister made by Volta in Sweden is even more rare.

what would resale value be?

Like so many Vacuumlanders would say: resale value of used and broken vacs is very low: maybe $20?

If it were untouched and new in the box, it could fetch over $100 methinks - the Excalibur that is. But from Goodwill, used and scratched and broken, not much. Collectors might pay $20 just to get a part they need.

I'm not an expert in auctioning off old vacs ...:-(

I love the smartvac, It was one of the last made in America Electrolux badged Eurekas we got here.

I love my one, I have had it since new. I embarrassed a Kirby Sentria salesman with it one day, They were doing coldcalling and I thought why not Lets see what they have. I had a rug in the living room over the Tiled floor. They did the salt thing and rubbed it into the carpet and said vacuum over it 10 Times, I went over twice, she pulled back the carpet to show me all the salt my vacuum had left behind.............It hadn't left any behind. She then preceded to vacuum once with the Kirby ..... No salt on the pad, twice with a puzzled look Still no salt ,, not even any real amounts of dust. She was so puzzled. It was brilliant.
Awesome vacuum. The only issue were the belts that are insanely priced here

It is somewhat indicative of a good design that this version of the Eureka SmartVac has been around for over a decade, perhaps going on 15 years now. It is still available everywhere. And in all that time, it has maintained its status as a "recommended" upright in Consumer Reports ratings. The tests have given the 4870 a rating of "excellent" for deep carpet cleaning - something that is not that common in the list of uprights that have been tested. It is also a very economical vacuum - being sold for under $300 in many locations in North America.

Two downsides: users have said that the brushroll shut-off switch is quite flimsy (not sure if it breaks easily), and the tools can only be used with one wand attached, if I remember correctly. But if your primary goal is buying a great carpet cleaner, this is worth a look.

Yes that's the one!!! These brushes actually fit into the tool storage slots of several Eureka vacs of the 1990's: World Vac canister, Excalibur upright, SmartVac upright and even the sleek Mighty Mite II. I bought a horsehair brush for the 9amp Mighty Mite II Powerline my parents once owned! It fits right into the rear storage slot of the canister.
