I have been running the Eureka almost daily since getting it in 2004, with a blown light bulb. (I know - what have I been waiting for - I've had a couple of spare bulbs in my drawer...) This morning, I got the bug to replace the bulb, and after switching the machine on, the bulb grew very bright and blew.

Any thoughts as to what would be causing this to happen?

Thanks loads,

Joe

The vibration from the brushrolls in Eurekas and Sanitaires can cause problems with bulbs, from the sound of it, the bulb you fitted had it's filament short out (resulting in it being brighter, and thus overheating) caused by the vibration making the filament bounce about inside the bulb... :)

Just chalk it up to experience and pop in a new bulb, if it happens again, try a different brand if possible...
