Hello, I recently tweeked up my 1988 Eureka FG Bag upright, least favorite in my collection but I still like it. (I have a pretty small Collection). Well I fired it up, and I noticed the bag didn't inflate really, usually those FG bags pop right up. I checked if there was a hole in the bag, or I put it on Incorrectly, nothing the bag looked fine, but it still didn't inflate. Also, aside from the bag problem, kinda hard to explain this, whenever I wheel the Vacuum, these tiny Metal Balls are all over the place, coming from the vacuum. My best guess is they are from the bearings maybe? But that's just a Secondary Concern. Any tips on the Bag, and/or the metal balls ? Thanks.

Eureka fan-first upright bags often do not inflate when you have installed a new, empty F&G bag. The airflow is quite clean at that starting point, and so there is not enough pressure on the paper material to blow it up like a balloon. Give it a few uses, and as the bag fills a bit with dirt and dust and carpet fibres, the airflow begins to reduce and the bag will blow up nice and full!

Not sure where the ball bearings are coming from though.... :-)

Most important part of this bit of "vacuum science": Eureka top fill F&G upright bags allow the dirt to drop from the top of the bag. So when a fresh one is used, the dirt drops away from the airpath and the air flows out through the top part of the bag. It's only really when the bag pores start to close up, that the bag starts to really inflate like a balloon...

You're welcome!

One other thing: make sure you have installed the F&G bag correctly and followed the instructions on the bag. Installing the bag with the intake tube facing the zipper and the collection sack facing the handle is a common error and can block the movement of air and dirt. Make sure you always install the bag with the intake tube facing the handle and the collection sac facing the zipper of the outer bag.

Have a great weekend!
