Electrolux XXX attachment

Over the past several days, I've bought a few things on eBay for my Electrolux XXX vacuums. One of them was missing the cloth bag, so I found one that is NOS and completely unused. (It's not Electrolux, but it was made in the USA at least!) I also found a small metal upholstery nozzle, and a carpet "gleamer" which I THINK at least would have originally come with the XXX.

I'm posting a few pictures of what I have specifically so far for the XXXs. I'm getting there

I just finished cleaning up the carpet attachment. It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of work and fine steel wool. It's not a museum piece, but I'm happy with how it turned out!

BTW, I know this would be off-topic here, but I also snuck in a picture of a few of my antique tube radios. (Well, they use vacuum TUBES, so I guess they're kind of on topic? Lol) I restored them and they all work

Yeah, that steel wool & elbow grease really produces, Chris!

Btw, I believe Electrolux USA went from using black to gray tool bumpers in 1949 for its silver Jubilee year, and they were used until 1952 when the turquoise-colored Model LX debuted as the standard cleaner; relegating the Model XXX as the budget cleaner.

Also, note the gleaner ('n' not 'm') switch on the carpet tool on the top left 'wingtip' that can be turned off (smooth side exposed) when vacuuming looped or delicate rugs by decreasing the suction.

Cool tube radios! The 'Household' section is where you can post about them and anything else related to the home but unrelated to floor & surface cleaners.

A shiny XXX is always a pleasure to behold. I dig your radios, too! Please do post about them in the household section. I used to have dozens of vintage tube radios, but over time I thinned that collection down to just five. I'll take some images and post them in the household section.

Paul, I keep getting confused about "gleaner." Ha, I had honestly never even encountered that word until just now when I got into vintage vacuums!

The XXX really is awesome. I love the look of it and how it's built.

Some older vacs had comb type permanent strips to help with pet hair,threads,etc.AirWay had a very clever bristle strip that could be lowered by twisting the lower wand.The Electrolux gleaner could be turned 'on' to side with grooves or 'off' to smooth side for some types of rugs.It did not control suction.On XXXs the suction control was a short attachment to place between hose and attachment.Later this was built in to the hose end on deluxe models.When the above rug tool was 'New' it was said to have 215 MPH air flow and could be used with older models or would be one more reason to get the newest Elux.

Jimmy, as always I appreciate your knowledge along with your correction of the gleaner's function. Would it, then, be accurate to say it controls the air flow?

Not really.It was more to brush and loosen pet hair,thread,etc so it would be easier for air flow to remove it.The off position was in case it caught and pulled fibers from some types of rugs.There was less need for the Gleaner when the Power Nozzle was introduced and added to or included with more Eluxes.
