Thats a beautiful Lux... Not real familiar with Canadian Electroluxes, but still awesome.

 


But I must say, that is the most pathetically shoprt cord Ive ever seen... LOL

Ya I know I dont know why it is so short because I have luxs even older with a full length cord I dont even know if it is original or that it was part of a cheaper model or somthing thanks. Zach

Question: How well do the older Luxes compare to the newer Canadian Luxes, like (Im saying this wrong, arent I?) Z-88?


 


You could vacuum a whole...corner with that cord!

That cord is from a kitchen appliance like a waffle iron, percolator or something else.

You know what I think henry200 is right because I know the (newer luxs) z88 have a long cord with cord winder I guess I never thought about it but I think it did come from some sort of appliance thanks. Zach

It does look like it came from a small appliance, I have an Iron and a spare cord that look nearly identical to that.

There's really no question that that is a cloth-braided Appliance cord for a percolator, toaster, iron or grilled cheese press. The original has been lost or destroyed so the home handyman has has provided a short cord to plug into an extension cord for Milady's vacuuming ritual.

The spacing of the prongs fits the Canadian power socket. Canadian Electrolux sockets are wider than American Electroluxs of the period and are not interchangeable between the two.

The one-piece rubber plug surrounding the socket is often dried out and crumbling; an appliance cord end is a suitable fixit replacement, especially if it is the older two-piece Bakelite end held together by a removable bolt. Newer ones are riveted together and more of a problem to separate but it can be done by drilling out the rivet.

A few of my CanLux 'loafs' came with replaced sockets like this but fortunately I have an ample supply of correct Electrolux cords - Canadian and American. The vulnerabilty of the vacuum's removable cord is the reason I prefer Cord Winders on my XXXs, LXs, 30s and 50s Electroluxes.

To vacuumfreak I am glad I was able to help, and ya I am now 100% positive that all of you guys are right I know I hav a few extra cords for the old luxs so I'll have to see if I have one that will go with this vacuum thanks. Zach
