Electrolux Model G with Powerhead

Hey guys! I just picked up this awesome Model G today for $30! I'm told its the 1960 model? Its in very good shape and very clean. I scrubbed the crap out of the power head with a magic eraser and this was the result! It was just covered with scuff marks and gunk. The inside of both the cleaner and the power head are really in immaculate shape! Now here is my question: The beater bar seems to move around a bit and kind of rattles when in use. Is this normal to accommodate different types of piles? I have a very low pile rug and it was struggling to get cleaned with this power head and was difficult to move along the rug. It could just be my crappy rug though. Is the loose beater bar normal? It seems to have been taken apart and cleaned at some point, but it seems like all the parts are there! TIA

If anyone helps Ku1981 out, it would help me out too. My PN1 also makes a clattering noise. I haven't taken it apart yet but I was assuming the rattling was from the belt being worn down because I think these use ribbed belts?

Congrats on getting a Model G in decent shape for 30 bucks!

I'm not sure what you mean about the brush roll moving around. If you'd remove the bottom plate and upload some photos of the brush roll it would show us if you're missing any parts. Your power nozzle is an original model PN-1, and they are somewhat noisy by design.

Fyi, the hose and pn cord are replacements, and the combination dusting brush and upholstery tool is from a later Model 1205. They match well, though, and are attractive regardless.

The aqua Model G was introduced in January 1961, although the manual states 1960. That's because Electrolux used the same cover for it and the Model R, which was introduced in late 1960. The situation is similar to the Kirby Classic 1-CR, whose original nameplates display "1969", but it was introduced nationwide in January 1970.

Paul, Thanks! I didn't realize the hose wasn't original! Thats fine though, because its likely aiding in the better suction I am getting! I will try to snap a pic of the power head insides in the next few days! I just mean that the beater bar isn't in there solid. It seems to rattle and be more movable than I expected, but may thats normal since Huskyvacs said the same thing!! I know the brush isn't original, I had it from a previous group of parts I found!

Another consideration is that the brush roll isn't the correct one. I don't know if another would have fit, though. It sounds like something is amiss, so I'm looking forward to seeing photos.

Regarding the hose, you're right about the better suction. If you want to test it for air leaks, give this old standard a try: 1) Mix some water and a small amount of dish soap in a spray bottle. 2) Spritz the outside of the hose with the mixture. 3) Soon after, attach the hose to the blower port. 4) Place your hand on the hand grip end of the hose. 5) Turn on the cleaner. Bubbles will form where there are air leaks.

Btw, there is a way to reseal the insides of hoses instead of replacing them if the hose is worn.

Re: Hose - My Bad

I must have been more tired than I'd thought last night. The hose IS original. I didn't look carefully enough and thought it was a teal-colored aftermarket one that I've seen with Model Gs from time to time. Sorry about that.

The cord, though, may not be have been original to the Model G. The early ones were white with plastic clips. Then, I thought they'd switched to the aqua ones with straps, but maybe there was a white one with straps in between. Either that, or the salesperson grabbed a hose cord from a Model R that would have been white.

I'm not sure if the plastic clips were able to be swapped out for the straps, but that would be another possibility.

Actually, Model G PN cords were light gray until the later run of the machines when the cords were made in two sections and were light turquiose. Same for the R. They were never white but light gray then light turquoise with the newer two-section cord. That being said, the PN  cord on this G looks like the one for the M0del L -- note the strain relief on the handle end.

I was looking online and I thought maybe the hose actually WAS original!! I'm glad to see that it is! That being said, it's really in exceptional shape for its age! I will try to get the pics of the powerhead maybe Sunday, so keep an eye out! I won't have time to get to it until then!!! This vacuum is really so clean that I feel as if it was barely used, or extremely well taken care of! I'm pretty sure the belt in the power head is nice and new as well! The brush does not look worn so I feel like it may be a replacement! We shalll see!!

The bronze bearings look to be in good shape but that belt looks like it's seen better days. The good news is they're fairly inexpensive and easy to come by.

Your bearings are rotated. They have blotches in them that align with fingers on the lock covers. Rotate the bearings so that the notches are up.

Unless you removed them for pictures there are 2 of the same parts missing.Each side should have a metal strip that goes under screw and across bearing with a tab that fits in the notch on bearing.Yours has the early smaller bearing.The belt may need replacing BUT possibly not for at least 10 more years use!

So there is actually a metal plate on each side of the brush roll that is holding it down. They are in there! I'm assuming that is what you mean rugsucker?

Not the chrome parts in picture but a separate strip on each side that is not in picture.A narrow black strip that goes under screw and holds bearing down with tab in notch.

HMMMMM. Someone on another group said the same thing! Gosh I have no idea what they would actually look like. Where would I find these parts? Do you know the actual part name? Thanks for your help!!
