It's called the Front Door Latch. I have only had to replace one in my 40 years of fixing vacuums, and I took it off a scrap machine.

Mine broke on my Olympia One for no reason at all. Just poof, broken.
I believe this is the proper latch part, I haven't taken mine apart yet.

No.Electrolux 1205 and all later metal body tanks had an arm on side of latch that was pulled down by automatic control to open door and turn on 'check bag' light.As Tom said above it is a rare failure and easily fixed with a parts Elux that you should be able to find in one of your local vac or Aerus stores.
