So I've had this Electrolux Genesis LXe for the past few months and it just wasn't performing to my standards on my Persian rugs so I turned to eBay for a replacement brush roll. But as I started looking, I remembered the Genesis upright used the same brush roll as a PN5, which I had on a shelf, gathering dust. Further recalling that the PN5 had been a satisfactory performer the last time I used it, I decided to save myself $15-$20 and perform a brush roll swap instead.
It took the better part of an hour, but in the end, I had a double success on my hands. The PN5 brush roll, which has longer, more splayed out bristles, picks up much better in the Genesis, while the Genesis brush roll, with its shorter, stiffer brush roll, puts new life into the PN5. It not only picks up like a champ but it actually pulls itself along on the carpet. It's kind of odd that each machine would work better with the other's brush roll but I'll take it--especially if it doesn't cost me anything.
