In a massively odd move Electrolux has pulled its floorcare range out of SouthAfrica.

They are planing to concentrate on major appliances now only.
Its a trully odd move that has baffeled all in the industry here.

To put this into.perspective In South Africa Electrolux is floorcare. Most people do not even know they do large appliances.

Through the 70's 80's and 90's Electrolux had one of the biggest vacuum cleaner manufacturing plants in Sa.
Many products were designed and built soley for this market.

Even today they are still the biggest name in floorcare but no more.

All of us insiders are left shaking our heads

That's very sad to hear :(
Electrolux UltraOne is the best canister vacuum cleaner I have ever used (My opinion).
It has dominated group tests in the Europe and I don't wonder why. Very quiet, powerful, good filtration and new full-size powerhead.
Now the new model has corrected some reliability issues seen in the previous version.
It's pricey, but for good reason.

Canada is in the same boat Gareth. Electrolux has removed all vacuum cleaners from their Canadian website. The American website still shows them, though.

Bummer....:-(

It already happened in the UK some years ago; though everything is now AEG for the premium vacs and Zanussi for the budget ones. You may well be seeing a return with those brands or others in South Africa if they are there already. Is Volta available in S.A?

Strangely enough Electrolux still produce parts and spares for their vacuums that also include current tools for the AEG & Zanussi branded vacs. Also sold under the "Menalux" brand.

I had my UltraOne (basic model, no powerhead) for about 5 years without any problems.
Some people has reported faulty circuit board.
Left in the picture is the original and right updated.

I would not be the least bit surprised if the name "Electrolux" is going to be sold off. Not the company - just the name. In the UK a lot of brand names for all different things often come back to life when one least expects it. A name -just one or two words- can have so much value amongst consumers.

I always thought Highly of the Ultraone. It was supurbly built by modern standards with soft touch plastics good quilty fit and finish.

It was far superior to anything Miele has put out in years.

I have yet to try the New one but they are still on Sale here for Now.
I atill Joked with a friend here after seeing the origional sample machine for Sa ( a basic model but still nice ) Thats its asif some one from Audi Interior design went to work in the final detail design at Electrolux

UltraOne sure is built very well.
For example the back wheels have a proper bearings and they run extremely smooth. Motor mounting is so called "floating" so noise and the vibrations from it are minimal. To ensure maximum air flow whole airpath is designed to have a very smooth flowing channels from the nozzle to the motor. That also reduces noise.
And like you said it has soft touch plastics, good quilty fit and finish.
Compared to any Miele UltraOne has better air flow, suction and it's also much quieter.

Consumer Reports has highly rated and recommended the newer blue UltraOne with large power nozzle. Though mediocre at deep carpet cleaning (it only scored "good" in this test), it scored an "Excellent" for bare floor cleaning, airflow through the hose for tool use, and pet hair removal. It also scored "Very Good" for noise control and emissions control. For some reason, it got only a "Fair" rating for "handling" (pushing, pulling, carrying and ease of use)...maybe they did not like the 3in1 tool or maybe they preferred a smaller hose handle, or maybe they prefer top-side swivel hose connections - not sure. But certainly it is a great loss for Canada and South Africa.

ultra one

Me and my girl friend both have the ultra one classic, that's the one with no power head, it is probably the quietest and most powerful canister vacuum you can get. It is definitely quieter than the Miele or the Sebo, and those are not super loud either. In the United States, the straight suction model is more expensive than similar models by Miele or Sebo, but after using it for a while, I can understand why. Hopefully they will not discontinue supporting it here, though I think several models use the same bags, I think they're called the s bag.

Hello all,
After going through what I did with my daughters Electrolux model 7024 Oxygen 3, I'd never buy one. The sumo board did go out on it, but it had a strain gauge handle switch problem also. I've also heard horror stories about the Ultra One.
In fact, I've not seen one on display in any vacuum shop, or big box/department store here in my area. Maybe Sears still has them. they sure are not up to the quality of machines that were built in Vastervik Sweden.
As for Electrolux USA, they became Aerus back in 2004. They still make the Guardian line in Texas.
Electrolux Home products USA is in South Carolina. They also distribute Laundry products. They do have a plant there. I do believe they assemble the front load wave touch washers and dryers. It is a subsidiary of AB Electrolux in Stockholm.
Their bid to buy General Electric major appliances division in Louisville Kentucky has been stopped citing anti-trust issues. I couldn't be happier about that. Electrolux has enough market share in Canada and the states with Frigidaire, and Electrolux Icon.
Axel Werner Gren would roll in his grave.

It's such an insult to the Eureka name and history to put that name on any of those cheap WalMart vacs today. They bear no resemblance to the Eureka vacs of the past. They might as well slap the name Suzy Homemaker on them! Truth is, the only remnant of Eureka Williams is seen in the Sanitaire commercial line made in Mexico. And this too is owned now by AB Electrolux of Sweden. If you want a true Eureka, you buy a Sanitaire now.

The Electrolux vacs we Canadians can no longer get are those high quality canisters made in Europe, including the ErgoSpace with the 9-foot hose. Which is a shame....:-(

Electrolux didn't become Aerus, they've been made by Aerus in the US for years. It was simply that the Aerus company could no longer use the Electrolux branding.

The original Electrolux group of Sweden and the beloved US Electrolux canisters are nothing to do with eachother - Aerus purely owned the rights to the name in the US, which the Electrolux group later bought back.

Our Lux machines here in the UK were made by the actual Electrolux company either in Sweden or in Britain, with a few machines made in France.
