Ebay is getting worse

Hi. I rarely purchase anything there anymore. But, I recently got a Nib hoover fry pan.... was told it would be late.   No problem.     Then, instead of my purchase, a Dollcame.    "Oops, mix up" he said. Finally, my item arrived.   "Yes, you can mail the doll. IF  there,'s a shipping charge, I'll reimburse you".  Did he think I could just throw it out the window..... aiming at his house.... in California????  Nuts! I told him, while waiting for the item, " what I do NEXT all depends on what YOU do next.

Now how is this ever possible? I already thought they hit rock bottom, which is why I hardly buy there anymore. Worst recent change is that you cannot make an offer or even bid unless you let them save your credit card info, which I refuse to do.
All I can do is BIN.

However crappy sellers can make things worse, same as on amazon.
Sometimes they are scammy, some are just dumb, some are actually very good.

Demand a prepaid USPS return label for the doll and tell them you will return it AFTER you get your correct item.
I had to do this once from a seller that knowingly sent an incorrect part for a lawn mower I was fixing. It did not even match the pictures.

Let eBay solve it...

I'm dealing with a deadbeat eBay seller myself right now. I bought an item ten days ago and it hasn't even shipped yet. I messaged them three days ago for an update and have received no reply. The estimated delivery window closes today and without evidence that it has even been shipped and no response to my inquiry, I'll be lodging an 'item not received' complaint with eBay, so that eBay Buyer Protection can give me a refund and they can deal with the deadbeat seller. While this isn't the first time I've had this problem, I'm thankful that it is relatively rare and that eBay has always made good.

I had two fans damaged in shipping, messaged the sellers, and they refunded the money immediately and said to keep it.

Also got a Hoover Celebrity that got marked up on the decals in shipping, told them I didn’t think it was damaged enough to hassle with returning, seller sent partial refund.

My annoyance with eBay is due to shipping costs. Shop Goodwill and even Facebook Marketplace have far far cheaper costs to ship.

Also don’t like how eBay won’t let me redirect packages for pickup, no problem doing that with other shopping places.

Yes, I've had plenty of good experiences on eBay, including a recent purchase of a camera lens. It was marked as 'untested', but the price was super cheap, so I took a chance. As it turned out, the lens was in great shape optically, but the autofocus didn't work. I messaged the seller to let them know what I had discovered, but that I had realized I was taking a gamble on it, so that was on me. The next thing I knew, I had a refund of the purchase price, and thus was only out the shipping charge. In my book, that went above and beyond.

Unfortunately, it appears my present deadbeat seller situation is going less well. There has been no response to date, so it looks like I will have to ask eBay to step in after the waiting period ends on Friday to issue me a refund and go after the seller.

I found some great deals a few years ago on shopgoodwill.com, but then they suddenly wouldn't recognize my account anymore. I'm not sure what happened, but it's probably just as well.

Okay, the saga of the deadbeat seller is now officially over. I got up this morning to find an email from eBay, asking how things went with the seller, and giving me the option to have them step in, which I did. I had my refund—from eBay, not the seller—within minutes.

I did have one seller that was non responsive, I had ordered a Princess telephone that ended up smashed in shipping. I tried messaging them first, but they wouldn’t respond until I went through eBay and had to actually return the item which was just stupid.

There was absolutely no reason to return it, as it was completely broken.

My dad collected scale car models, and once when he received one that had suffered minor damage in shipping, the seller would only issue a refund if Dad completely smashed the model with a hammer and sent them photographic evidence of the destruction.

Much better was the time I bought a chrome Sunbeam Mixmaster on eBay, and the seller shipped it fully assembled. The latch on the base got broken, as did the turntable, and when I informed the seller, he promptly refunded my money and told me to dispose of the mixer as I saw fit. My solution was to replace the broken base with a white plastic one, which cost less than I had initially paid for the mixer, and to super glue the turntable back together. I later passed that mixer down to my niece, and she loves it. I have always followed this seller's example when I was selling stuff on eBay.

Yeah most sellers in my experience just say to keep the item and they refund the money if it’s damaged. No sense spending on shipping to send it back and throw away. I a always message them and send pictures of the damage.

I've been burned by bootlegged DVD's until I learned the majority of DVD's on ebay are bootleg. They look so authentic. A dead giveaway is how many have been sold...You know how you see 431 sold? A seller selling that many putting them out in droves.. run far away from. You receive them and they look authentic.. but that's where it stops... It wouldn't be that bad but what the bootleggers do is rip an authentic DVD to their computer....which is a dual layer DVD (8 gigs)... they take that and shrink it down to 4 gigs so that data will fit on a single layer cheaper DVD. I don't know of any instance where authentic DVD's are single layer... they are almost always double layer..But it ends up compressing it so much that often the DVD's look horrible...very compressed looking in comparison to the originals... but good enough that many many people may not even notice.

And people will recieve them... watch them... give good feedback... having NO clue that they are have something totally sub-par

One series I tried to buy 3 different times and kept getting bootlegs every time... If I buy a DVD online it has to be from a reputable store.. Amazon is good if you buy them that are shipped and sold by Amazon... if it's a 3rd party seller... you never know... Walmart online is just as bad... loaded with 3rd party sellers selling bootlegs...

$21.00  "Mario" is refunding . YAY!  I'll wait and see.


THe whole thing was unbelievable.  That 'doll' was a gift.... that sale became a 'bust' for the seller, as, that birthday passed.


 I'm amazed I actually finally got the NIB Hoover Fry pan!

eBay sales tax scam

So 'ePay' has sunk to a new low, seriously gouging on sales tax. It' bad enough that they charge sales tax on shipping handling, but I just ordered a part for my dishwasher for $5.99. North Carolina sales tax is around seven percent these days, which should have been about 42 cents. Instead, I was charged $3.40!!! Seriously? That's about 58 percent!!! I'm thinking of canceling the order, just on principle, even though it's less than the purchase price alone for the next cheapest item. I'm rapidly losing faith in eBay

Okay, this just keeps getting weirder and weirder. I've been trying to reach customer service at eBay and getting exactly nowhere, but suddenly the $3.40 sales tax has morphed into 40 cents sales tax, plus a $3.00 white goods disposal fee. Really? It's not like anybody is having to haul anything off. We're talking a little piece of plastic that will fit in the palm of my hand and is going to get tossed into my own trashcan. Neither the seller nor eBay has any responsibility for the disposal of the broken part, yet I have to pay $3.00?!? This is totally nuts!

Situation resolved...

After spending an inordinate amount of time online and on hold on the phone, I finally convinced eBay to refund me the $3 white goods disposal fee, which was incorrectly applied. North Carolina charges this fee on the purchase of new major appliances--stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, etc.--not small replacement parts purchased to prevent said white goods from being sent to the landfill. And arguably, that fee had already been paid on that dishwasher by the original purchaser. Part of me feels like getting that $3 back wasn't worth the time and effort invested, but on the other hand, it's a matter of principle. Oy! What a pain!

I’ve found eBay prices have just gotten too high on a lot of items that could even be speculated as collectible.

Buy it now listings are convenient as one can get the item now, and avoid the hassle of bidding, and waiting for an auction to end before the item ships IF one wins.

But, for a long time now, it’s been just like an overpriced antique shop, where a seller can just “park” an item on it at no cost, at a very high price, not even have an offer option, and wait months or years until someone clicks “buy it now.”

And of course you have sellers of items that claim their price is good because they find it listed as some crazy price on eBay and claim, “but it sells for $XXX on eBay!”

Not to mention the exorbitant cost of shipping on eBay these days if not buying from a volume seller. Shop Goodwill, Etsy, even Facebook Marketplace, among others offer far cheaper shipping options.
