eBay bidders go beserk on Lux brochure

I'd kinda like to have had this set of brochures (see link) to get the one on the Hospital G, but I wasn't prepared to pay over a hundred bucks for it ... right ... for just a couple of brochures ... not the vacuum cleaner!

Tom Gasko, did you see this listing? Did you see the Hospital G hose?! It's off-white with pairs of dark turquoise stripes. I've never seen a Lux hose like it. The R hose is similar, but it has pairs of turquoise and gray stripes and has the older type of suction adjuster on the handle.

Note also that the plug is different -- more heavy-duty than the standard G plug at that time.

Also, this is the first time I've seen Electrolux call the Hospital G the Model GH.

I sure would love to have gotten this.......... oh well.

Someone else saw that hose!!! Now we know the Hospital G had a white hose instead of turquoise...who knew??? But im with you Charles, its not gold plated!! I still say the internet has ruined vacuum collecting for average working folks, now you just about have to be a millionaire to really build up a collection, im glad I got mine mostly years ago.

Prices on stuff from the internet-its RUINED hobbies like radio,lamp,and fan collecting.Its also ruined hobbies like vintage Hi-Fi gear collecting.Its getting tougher to get things becuase folks advertise them on the internet at inflated prices and dopey buyers pay the prices.Don't need items that bad.You don't see good stuff at private want ads,yard sales,and such anymore.

You can't rely on pictures in brochures to give you the correct colors. Working for a vacuum manufacturer, I see the prototypes being photographed for the brochures and instruction manuals, only to be different when in production. While the hose on the Hospital G's brochures shows a unique color combination, it was never used in production. It would have made no sense, to the company, to not use the hose and tools already in production for the model G.

Maybe we should use the word 'changed' instead of ruined.Before EBay the following might have happened--Someone cleans out Aunt Susies house in MD and has a yard sale.The Elux lit is lying on a table for 50 cents BUT none of the neighbors and local people want it and at the end of the day it and more goes in the trash to be lost forever.--With EBay already it is seen in NC,MO,TN(me),CA and more.As far as I know this is an 'I've NEVER seen this!' item.If a standard vac owners manual had been put on that most of us have for 10. or 100.it would likely not sell.Now we have both new information and questions on a vac we have seen from lit we had not.
Is this a one sided flyer or GH instructions for filter,etc on back side??
Did Elux really not make this hose??They made the unique GH filter after all.And I recall that all openings for wires to go to switch were sealed to have all exhaust air going throug filter.
Also with the internet we can congradulate the new owner for having a truly rare item and he (or she)could post better pics of both sides as we could all continue to learn more of a great and rare Elux.

Good points, Jimmy. I was just a bit astonished at how high the bidding went. And I can't help but wonder if this brochure is going to go into a certain person's silo-full of literature that "she" has been hoarding for 40 years and will never again see the light of day.......

And Tom, "I hear ya" re prototype knock-ups for advertising collateral. I have a photo of a Model S from a factory brochure that shows it with a cloth Model LX hose! But I can't help but wonder if the GH did indeed have a white hose that would better match the color of the machine. I'm going to call my Electrolux oldtimer friend and ask him if he remembers.

I emailed my oldtimer Electrolux friend about the Hospital G hose. He replied that the machine did indeed have a white hose.

He's told me in the past that he sold many, many of them - almost as many as the standard Gs. People really loved them. I never thought to ask him about the hose, assuming that it did have the same hose as the turquoise model, but it didn't.

He said when the bronze G came out and the white/bronze Hospital model with it, the hose was the same light tan color with gold stripes on both machines.

My mother..................

bought the hospital G, (traded in a regular turquoise G), and it did have the white hose with the turquoise tracer. The brush roll had 3 strips of brushes instead of 2.

It was a killer vac and I used it a LOT! I have one now, (not hers), and it runs like a top. With the correct power nozzle and brush roll.

The 3 rows of bristles, our local Electrolux lady sold a lot of those as replacements.

Here's a brand-new 3-brush Hospital G brush roll. I have a really nice PN-1 that I'm going to install it in.
