easy fix for the gsix?

I've got a kirby gsix and ever since its been in my posession the transmisson does not go into drive what could be a common easy fix. and should this be a diy project. if so any tips on how to avoid screwing up screw heads i recently tore apart my heritage witch sadly is still on the waiting list to be fixed as well and when i got it apart i noticed several screw heads completely stripped out and messed up another head myself. Any and all advice is greatly apreciated as always

This should explain how the Neutral/Drive switch works and what to look out for to get it working again. The mechanism can wear out (see pic 13 on that link) or the drive belt can break. Should be fix-able. A really good YouTube video showing how to get into the beast is here:
