Dyson DC39 Question

Hey guys! So before I go into my question, I would like to clarify that I do not need alternative options to what is asked, I generally know what I'm talking about (though opinions below are based on in-store hands on observation), and I would PLEASE ask that no brand bashing would occur in this post. I honestly just need a few questions answered. With that being said...

So I think it is about time to retire the trusty old DC21, due to bearing noise and generally being worn down from heavy use. Because it is the family vacuum, the housekeeper uses it and lets just say that she is not very gentle. So here is the first question: The DC39, being Dyson's newest canister addition, seems like a good option, but I'm worried that all the plastics of the steering mechanism won't stand up to daily abuse. To anyone who has experience with the machine, do you think it will stay intact? Also, My house kind of requires a power nozzle, so I was just going to get a Eureka 1934B if I do go with the DC39. The second option I guess would be the DC23 motorhead, but for the sake of enjoyment I would prefer something other than a pure update of what I already have. Are there any other good bagless canisters with full sized Power nozzles? The hoover platinum option seems messy and cheaper than the dyson, but once again if you have experience with it please let me know. I personally would love a Miele, but I know that once I leave for college the bags would never get changed, and a Rainbow, which again I would love, is just completely out of the question in that regard. But yeah... sorry that was so long winded.

A summary of what I need: a bagless canister with a full size PN that can withstand abuse, filters pretty well, and will sufficiently clean pet hair. Also, the filters wont be cleaned often at all so 6mo. or more would be great. Does such a machine exist? Thanks!

I haven't used the DC39 yet, although I really want to. I currently own a DC23 Motorhead and it is probably one of the better vacuums in my collection. The power nozzle is decent sized, the hose is pretty long, and the attachments are pretty good as well. It also has the stair hugger feature which is pretty nifty if you don't have a landing on your stairs. The only thing I don't like about it is the inability to remove the wand from the hose. Whenever you want to use an attachments besides the power nozzle you have to reach down and disconnect the power nozzle and then attach an attachment. I really like mine for the most part though.

I would stay away from the Hoover Platinum canister. I have the green model which is the same thing except it doesn't have the height adjustment and power switch in the handle. While it is a great vacuum and cleans pretty well, it is huge. The canister on mine is pretty scuffed up from banging into the corners of doorways. The attachments are also pretty lousy. You only get the crevice tool and upholstery/dusting brush. They are both built into the handle which I thought was going to be a disaster, but it actually is really handy having the attachments right there. My green model also didn't come with a bare floor brush which was really disappointing for me.

In conclusion I'd probably recommend the Dyson, but that's just me.

I have both the Dyson and the Hoover...

The Hoover has power nozzle neck issues. That being said, the issues are all caused by customer's hard use. The cleaner IS large, kind of hard to pull around. Does a brilliant cleaning job though.

The DC39 is a great machine at filtering and keeping the dirt away from the filters. But the turbo powered nozzle leaves a LOT to be desired. It won't do a very good job on the rugs unless they're indoor/outdoor or berber type. The brush bar wraps fairly quickly with hair. The vacuums pulls very easily, doesn't tip, and is a great canister. If only it had an electric power head.

You might consider the Electrolux Ultra Active. I own one, it's a GREAT bagless, and pretty durable. It's also fairly quiet. I'd recommend it as my top pick for a bagless, durable canister with an electric power nozzle.

I bought, then returned, an LG canister and a Samsung canister - both bagless and with a power nozzle. While the LG cleaned well, it loaded the filter with dirt and decreased its suction very quickly. The Samsung's power nozzle didn't stand up by itself and the canister was a monstrosity to pull behind you. I don't think either machine would be suitable for your parents.
