Dyson dc07 Carpet- terrible carpet cleaning?

I recently got a Dyson dc07 carpet (no clutch system) for parts/repair, as the brushroll had broken literally in half, and the machine STANK! I completely disassembled it, down to the motor, took the cyclone apart, etc. Every part was washed in hot, soapy water. I got it back together, it ran great, sounded good, and had excellent suction. I just ordered a new brushroll a couple weeks ago, and after installing it, (and a new belt), I gave it a test run, and was severely disappointed. It doesn't grab the carpet at all, (medium length cut pile) and just didn't do a good job. No deep cleaning at all, I poured exactly 1/2 cup of salt on the carpet, then vacuumed for several minutes. I got less than 1/4 cup, then went over it about 10 passes with a Dirt Devil Breeze upright, picking up another 1/4 cup. All in all, the Dyson did a terrible job, and I would like to know if this is working properly or if something else is wrong. I did wash the foam filters and replaced the Hepa filter, so getting great suction.

I have the DC14 Origin and its my best deep cleaner for thick pile. Does yours have seals in the soleplate? Is the soleplate fitted correctly?

From my memories of the DC07 it did a decent job on carpet. Was very noisy though. Used to wear ear defenders

I don't think there is any seals on the soleplate, and the hose is on correctly. I don't think it's terribly loud though, but it does have excellent suction through the hose.

Many another vacuum cleaner manufacturers often seemed to compare their machines to Dyson dc07. I mean when they wanted to show how bad Dyson is at deep carpet cleaning and how great their is.
I am not sure is this DC07:

The non clutched models should have seals in the soleplate. If not, then they should be in the brush housing perimeter. There are grooves for the seals to be inserted into. This creates more suction at the cleaner head

I checked and there is seals on the soleplate, I must have missed them before. I've checked everything I could think of, I'm wondering if this is normal? If so, why do people love dysons? I've used a dc25 that felt the same way, no real deep cleaning going on. The only Dyson that I've used and actually felt was doing a good job was the dc28. But by far the worst was this dc07. I used a dc07 animal at my church, and while the brushroll literally had no bristles, it had at least a little clamping action and did fine on flat carpet.

The older Dysons unto the DC33 except the DC17 and DC28 are best for thin pile carpets which is all over the UK really. DC28 and 17 are American machines only sold these so they are good for deep pile.
I thought the DC25 would be good for thick pile, but no the ball digs into the pile and the cleaner head floats above the carpet. I really do hope that the DC41 will do well with its active base plate and concentrated suction

the old dyson i personally just don't like they're not very good at all at deep cleaning only in the last few years they've started making vacuums that can actually deep clean it the newest ones you can get at the moment are absolutely brilliant at deep cleaning on all surfaces.

The DC07 is fine on surface dirt like hair but the brushroller really doesnt agitate the carpet particularly well. I rotate one upstairs with a Rainbow E Series and a Sanitaire, it never does as good a job for grooming the carpet or deep cleaning, but is fine if I just want a quick run to get rid of some pet hair.
