I spotted a DC04 by a wheelie bin and stopped to investigate. The elderly couple were out in there garden and came over to ask why i stopped. I asked if the dyson was by the bin for throwing away they said yes, and were really really glad I took it as they didn't have to go to the tip for a Hoover. The motor has gone, no problem change that in 10mins. The exciting thing is, it is in REALLY REALLY good condition. The labels are brill. AND to top it off, it's just been sercived by Dyson. New handle, hose, switch and cable, brush bar, inner hose and soleplate. The only way to tell is the original parts are faded not quite silver anymore lol. Never mind. It was my childhood vac! I'm thrilled.

Can't wait to use it, set of tools and were done...

The old lady is pleased to be the owner of a new DC25, very happy she was.

Whoah! I know how great you feel :)
That exact model DC04 is the same model my uncle had, he might still have it bit it's really battered, owned from new and replaced a DC01.
My childhood vac was a DC01 standard from 1997 (when we bought it) and lasted about a few years cos of me :( Lol ah well, I am glad there are still loads of DC01's around

Matthew, whilst I'm really pleased for you that you got a machine you wanted, it upsets me greatly that people consider Dyson's their childhood machines. I remember the days before Dyson existed :/. God, I'm getting old.

Anyway, congratulations. Be sure to post some pics when you get it sorted.

I agree - the DC04 motor is one of the easiest to replace and new motors are widely available. I restored a friends DC04 for the grand total of £38, including new tools and a new motor.

Urgh...

... Dyson's as childhood vac's, unfortunately i've had to put up with that as well.

We had a DC03 from 1998 until 2006, when the motor went. It was placed in the garage. In 2012 I bough a small job lot of Dyson's (2x DC01's, DC03 & DC05) to sell on, so I decided to fix our DC03. Albeit it was rubbish, it was a childhood vac, but I don't have it - thankfully - George now has it as a spares machine.

In 2006 my mum's friend lent us her DC14 Allergy for around 6 months, as my dad was going to fix the DC03, but never got round to it. She had a DC07 as well as she's not the strongest so she had the DC07 upstairs and the DC14 downstairs. We had that for 6 months or so, then we got the crap Electrolux, it wasn't worth having the Electrolux name on it frankly.

Now we have a DC33, which I don't use, its a Multi Floor one and we got it in late 2011, I don't even count it in the collection. It's in not bad condition, although as per usual there are a few marks and the bin has clouded over. I will add some photo's later.

Apologies for drifting off topic a bit, in my collecting time I have had three DC04's, in my opinion the best Dyson. My auntie has had one for 14 years with daily use in a house with three lots of long haired people - 4 sometimes - as well as a keen gardening husband. But she gets it serviced yearly and still sucks strong - the Dyson that is...

Thanks for reading through all this drivel.

PS. Though before the DC03 we had an Electrolux Dolphin and an AEG Vampyr, as well as a Bosch Cylinder, and now the main machine for wood flooring is the S2111, and I tend to use either the Electrolux Twin Turbo or the Panasonic MCE-41N for carpet cleaning.

Yes...

... I never did, sorry about that. It has been away at my aunt's for nine months, she has had a back operation and has had her DC04 downstairs, and used the DC33 upstairs, so I haven't seen it for a while. I've just run it round today, and it's not too bad.

I'll add some pictures sometime soon, I have the school holidays next week so will add some pictures too.

And just for you Tayyab, I thought you'd like to know I got a free DC14 Animal today. I know you like Dyson's so I thought I'd let you know!
