Does Brand Matter.

I never thought about this until recently.

I was reading an article about a women who was talking about falling in love unexpectedly not long after her husband passed away. She went out with two men one who she had a great chemistry with (who she married later) but she wanted to try one more time with a second guy and didn't have the same feeling about. She went off to list all the differences and it was funny because she said he has a Hoover and I have a Oreck. This really made me laugh but then got me thinking. For those of us who like vacuums and appliances. Would a brand matter in a relationship.

For myself and my fiancee I have all higher end appliances and vacuums and for him a vacuum is just another household item. He laughs at me with how I shop and how I pay attentions to brands, especially on Ebay if I'm thinking about another vacuum.

So would a brand matter to anyone?

Interesting question, Andy!
I was all set to respond that it wouldn't matter that much to me, as I'm all over the place with the brands in my "collection".
But, I wonder if it would. Even if not specifically with regard to vacuums; maybe with other things.
To my surprise, it's not something that I can answer without giving it a lot more thought!

I think that consumers really have to be careful these days depending on a brand name to guarantee them a trustworthy product. Unless we are really certain that the brandname reflects a company and factory we know about, we can’t really be certain that the brandname is representing the company we used to know.

Just because we see the name Eureka on a vacuum in a store nowadays does not mean the name represents the same trustworthy company from the 1970’s. Same goes for Westinghouse or General Electric appliances.

If you search for “cordless stick vac” on EBay or the internet in general, you will see scores of ridiculous brandnames all coming from China. Same goes for robot vacs.

In the vacuum world, it seems that only Kirby and some European companies (Miele, Sebo, Electrolux) are brandnames still connected to the founding companies.

I think there are very few brands that are actually a brand and not a rebranding these days.

But yes for household appliances brands matter.
My wife knows better then to buy most cheaper brands being form China.
We usually end up doing quite a bit of research before buying anything because of that.
