You didn't really think I would let the Avocado Bomber die did you? Silly you if you did. I finally took a trip over to Staples (in a town as small as ours, what was my excuse?) to brainstorm. You know I kind of had my heart set on a plastic hinge. This is what I came up with. The first pic are some raw materials. I only used the folder thingie, at least so far. I need to take a little sojourn over to Home Depot tomorrow for some screws, nuts and some kind of rubber grommet by way of sealing the holes in the lid since you will see I had to mangle the originals to grind the original rivets out with a Dremel.

Still in intensive care, and this is experimental therapy btw. Your insurance won't cover this procedure. Ought to have the rebuilt motor back this weekend and I think I finally understand how to wire the darn the high/low speed switch into the vacuum. I put it back to bed to rest for now, but there is more surgery in the weeks to come.

Keep that Kenmore in the I.C.U, don't die on us, A.B! That hinge is a neat idea, it must be installed with medical precision! Sterilize the screwdrivers and wear fresh gloves, the Kenmore must breath air once more!

I'm going to go back and slot the holes in the hinge material. I want to be sure I can get the lid nice and snug on the seal. Slotting the holes will give me some room to wiggle things into place. I want to be able to get the two halves of the original broken hinge right up against each other, then I will know the lid is positioned correctly. A millimeter here, a millimeter there, it makes a difference in fit.

Next week will be new heart and lungs.
