Do belts wear when not in use ?

I have 7 Vacuum Cleaners, and I use them all regularly, so the wear is spread out among them, which means I rarely have to change a belt in my 4 uprights.

When I buy belts, I buy packs of two, but seeing as I only have to change the belts every couple of years, the second belt in the packet sits in my cupboard for around 2 years before being put into use.

Will the 2 years of sitting in the cupboard reduce the life of the belt when it is used, due to the rubber hardening or something ?

If you keep ther unused ones in a

ziplock bag, they'll be fine. It's when they dry out that you have problems. Do you call them ziplock there?
They're sealable plastic sandwich bags.

Ah I know what you mean. I usually just keep them in the plastic packets they come in.

I'll look into buying some Zip-Lock bags (yes we call them that too).
