I was visiting with a Kirby Distributor today and he told me that Kirby is phasing out the different colors they've been making for Model 505 through the 1CB. The two basic styles are being replaced by a black corduroy fabric. So that inspired me to try and spiff up this D80 that came on a Model 517 someone recently gave me. This is the "before" photo. Notice that the lower part of the bag is faded. The top covered by the vinyl bag top is much darker. It's much more noticeable in person.

This is the result after dying the bag. I've never even sewed a stitch in my life, so this was new territory to me. I used one package of the dark green Rit dye and mixed in a little Dark Brown dye to make sure it came out as olive/avocado green. I'm surprised by the results and it was much easier than I thought. Just follow the directions! LOL!

The Moral to the Story

So the moral to this story is that if you prefer the current colors on the vintage replacement bags, then you'd better get them while they're still out there! I ordered one of the open top bags for the 517 I'm working on. The Distributor expects it to be black. That should look nice!
